9. Try putting it in an IRC client like mIRC and see what happens.
that is the address for their Internet Relay Chat server - which changes from time to time but i have seen it at that address before. it's where the anonymously like minded go to chat, plan, discuss, etc.

In the pic below you would click Add and where you see the #8 put the irc.anonops.ru part in and that should take you there.

Get mIRC free here --> http://www.mirc.com/

10. A little too tech-y for me at this point, but thank you -- maybe someone else
can use it, or maybe me, some day.

11. It's pretty simple really
I'll put the info here just in case you or others want to try it. I have been using IRC for over 12 years and love it.

"Getting Started with mIRC
It usually only takes a few minutes to get started with mIRC. The following guide will take you through the first few steps of downloading and using mIRC.

1 - Before you can start using mIRC, you will need to download and install it. If you have already done that, you can skip this step.
You can download mIRC by clicking here. A download window should appear, similar to the one below. You should click the Run or Open button.

Once the download has completed, the mIRC installer will appear. You should follow the steps in the installer and install mIRC.

2 - Run mIRC by double-clicking on the mIRC icon on your desktop or in your Windows Start menu. You should then see the Connect window below which you can use to connect to IRC.
You will need to enter something for your Full Name and Email Address. These do not have to be your real full name and email address.

You will then have to choose your Nickname and Alternative nickname. These are the names by which other people will know you on IRC."

steps 3-6 here: http://www.mirc.com/install.html

13. Went to anonops.net and didn't know where to go from there! There was an
Anonymous box on the right side, clicked on one link but didn't really understand what it took me to.

Talk to me like I'm a third grader - I may get it.

Do I want to get on the IRC? Is it interesting to third graders, or will that be over my head, too?

Thanks! :hi:

14. Ah ok - even better they have their own java or similarly based IRC webclient available on that page
Edited on Sat Mar-05-11 02:40 AM by slay
so no need to d/l mIRC.

--Ok so yeah, click on the link in the box on the right hand side that says "Join" beside the current IRC server name which is irc.anonops.net

That takes you to the login screen. Change the nickname part to whatever you want it to be then hit Connect

That will log you in to their IRC channel where you can sit back and watch them chat, or join in if you wish. To speak in the channel just type what you want to say in the box at the bottom of the screen and hit enter.

When you are done chatting/watching - type /quit and that will disconnect you.

Let me know if that doesn't work for some reason. :hi:

*on edit - (for more advanced options) you'll see on their webpage many different words with a # in front of them like #Anonymous. Believe it or not that has nothing to do with twitter and are actually the channels you can join to chat with them about different subjects so if the current channel is not of your liking, in the place where you change your nickname you can also change the chat channel - just make sure to put the # in front of the word for the channel or it won't work.

16. Another (easier) site in which to dip your toes in the Anon sea:
WWP: Why We Protest, http://www.whyweprotest.net/

Site of the ongoing ops against scientology and recently documenting and discussing human rights, free speech, wikileaks, B Manning, and the assorted revolutions. They are not as 'down in it' as the IRC sites and are strictly legal non-violent Gandhi-tech, but it's a good friendly place (for anonymous, at least) to start lurking and immersing oneself in the culture.

without heavy assault weapons. Why do you think the MIC owns governments? Humans understand only one language FORCE

18. Force only perpetuates a system based on force
It's a McLuhanesque medium-is-the-message sort of thing. If the medium you rely on is force, that's all the message you get. Force in, force out.

Anonymous is trying to change the system from the bottom up.

22. It's like we have Robin Hood and his Merry Men
ready and willing to take on the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Their take-down of HBGary was classic, not only by showing them they could, but by exposing what we always suspected was happening, huge, corrupt Corps were using Psyops on Americans. They were plotting to destroy people's reputations by lying about them and smearing them. This story of course did not get much coverage in this country because we do not have any real news media here.

I hope there are charges filed in that case. This is what is undermining our democracy and is treasonous imho.

27. Wow! was he just pretending to be all that, angry that he
was not hired, fantasizing about being a 'real badass' with all those connections and training, or was any of it true?

I hope these peopel get dragged into court sometime soon and we get some real answers to the question of just what they were up to.
