It seems that everyday there is a horrific report of parents and others killing children. This has |
|
to stop.
Adopted father allegedly kills child and sprays body with chemicals in Florida
Parent arrested after son is found dead in oven in Mississippi
Child is beat to death by parent for wetting pants.
Two children's bodies found floating in suitcases in canal in Florida.
and much more.
This a call to protect the children. If you suspect abuse, report it. Better to be wrong than to be right.

1. The stories push patriarchy and entitlement |
|
Necessary propaganda for the capitalists
Imagine how the news would look if they reported successful Child Protective Service interventions, or court cases that empowered victims.
Can't have that.

3. however, it would not be surprising if the increase in economic distress is reflected |
|
in an increase in social distress, including child abuse, drug & alcohol abuse, & spousal abuse.

6. I would be curious the actual statistics |
|
It is easy to be influenced by anecdotal incidents covered in news reports. Simply because there are more in the news doesn't indicate an upward trend, it may simply be slow news days which elevates an incident from local news to the national spotlight.
There has always been a phenomenon of parents or caretakers abusing or killing children. It isn't just humans either, it spans the animal kingdom.
If there is an upward trend I would first blame lack of mental health and addiction services. We waste our money on foreign wars, including Ronnie's 'war on drugs', and incarceration of drug offenders. It is time to end these "wars" and spend the money building our mental health and addiction treatment infrastructure making these services available to to anyone who needs it.

10. The actual statistics, unlike the ones in the OP |
|
Are that women are far more likely to kill their own children than the father -- probably because they're the prinary caregivers and thus have more opportunity and "motive."

7. K&R- I believe what is happening has always happened - it is just being |
|
reported more often. The US has always been terrible for many of its children.

but we could make mental health services available and maybe some would get help before they act on their impulses.
