Should UN be summoned to check on PFC Bradley Manning?
Or should someone petition the President to allow someone to check on him. We know we torture people. We have done it before. There is little reason to believe we have stopped now.

The President could stop these questions. Simply permit someone to check on the young man before the UN requests permission to do so.

If something were to happen, if he died while imprisoned for example, it would be a tragedy in so many ways, not the least of which would be the electoral chances for Barack Obama.

For those that might suggest the President has nothing to do with the matter. Yes, he does. He is the Commander in Chief. This is so disappointing and alarming, in so many ways.

1. i think we should send un peacekeepers, as we're apparently pushing for in
libya.

since our own laws seem not to be able to keep people from being tortured.

7. and not Gitmo???
Suddenly everyone has forgotten all about the people that the US is REALLY torturing. Only Manning's treatment matters anymore. Nevermind all the prisoners at Gitmo or all the other prisoners all over the US getting the same solitary confinement treatment or FAR worse. The only prisoner treatment anywhere that anyone should ever concern themselves with is that of Bradley Manning.

8. We do need outside intervention in this country now as we no
longer respect the rule of law. It is essentially a lawless country and no one detained by the U.S. Military is safe.

The Red Cross can supposedly get in. However, when the Red Cross visited Abu Ghraib, the U.S. military hid a lot from them. It should be an unanounced visit if they go at all.

I don't know if the UN is the right entity to inspect the conditions of the prison. They are afraid of the U.S. from what I can see. Although after the Wikileaks cables revealed what the U.S. was doing to members of the U.N. and its Sec. General maybe they feel a little less intimidated.

10. Or maybe the Red Cross (ICRC)
But then, the military has NEVER let them into any of their prisons like Abu Ghraib or Guantanamo or even Bagram.
