Atlas Shrugged Takes It To Capitol Hill
So our lawmakers got a private screening Wednesday of the first in a trilogy of movies based on Ayn Rand's novel Atlas Shrugged. The film is produced by John Aglialoro, CEO of exercise equipment manufacturer Cybex Intl. and Harmon Kaslow who has a long string of B-movies to his credit. Considering how heavily this movie is being promoted, and where, it seems there's more ideology than entertainment to this flick.

You can check out the trailer for Atlas Shrugged Part I here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6W07bFa4TzM

“Even though Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged is more than 50 years old, the film is hauntingly relevant to what’s happening today.” says producer Harmon Kaslow.

“I can’t think of a more perfect venue than the Rayburn Building where its main entrance is guarded by two ten foot marble statutes symbolizing Spirit of Justice and Majesty of Law.” Continued Kaslow, “Given the current political climate, screening the movie right in the middle of where the U.S. House of Representatives operates brings the movie directly to the audience that needs to see it most - the U.S. Congress.”

1. Why do conservative movies have to be so
damned bad? The trailer for this makes it look to be about as believable and high quality as "An American Carol".

In this case I'll admit that they have shit to work with right from the original story but damn, that overacting and pathetic cinematography can't be blamed on Rands original spew.

2. Was there a contest?

It's like there was a contest to see who could stuff the most number of cinematic cliches into a coherent trailer, and the producers of Atlas Shrugged Part I won.

3. My guess is the "director"
and cadre of support staff (friends and relatives) took Film 101 at some community college and decided they were ready to make a movie. They got some rich assholes to agree that funding Atlas Shrugged was a capital idea and off they went.

I'm curious to see how this turns out. I'll put money on a big opening weekend as the teabaggers all get babysitters and head out to the multiplex followed by a near record collapse during the second week as nobody else bothers. I'll also bet they don't screen it for critics under the guise of those damned leftie critics just won't be fair when in reality they realize it's shit and they have to get as much money back as possible during opening weekend.

6. It's directed by Paul Johansson... who also plays John Galt
All he's directed before are a short, a made-for-TV movie and a few episodes of One Tree Hill (which he also stars in). This is his big-screen directorial debut. Source: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0424035/#Director

5. I think it's because they're hell-bent on Making A Statement
So, it becomes overbearing, overdone, just plain... over.

7. Oh, I agree
Although I don't see how anything based on Atlas Shrugged could be anything but all of those things.

Oh, the irony there is staggering.

The movie looks over-produced and dull as hell, from what I can see from the trailer.

8. "The movie looks over-produced and dull as hell"
Well, that means it's got one more thing working in its favor than the novel. :D
