Egyptian protesters have stormed the headquarters of the secret police in Cairo, demanding that the organisation be dismantled.

It followed rumours that officials were destroying documents that could be used in court to prove human rights abuses.

On Saturday, former Interior Minister Gen Habib al-Adly - who had been in charge of the secret services - appeared in court accused of money-laundering and corruption. He denied all the charges.

The revolutionaries are treating their own people as their own people. Just read a bit of history up on the Revolutionary War in the United States. The slaughter of the "enemy" was impossible to comprehend (the US lost more people in its civil war than in all wars that the US has had combined).

WAM Abu Dhabi, 5 March 2011 (WAM) -- The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs is closely monitoring the latest developments in Libya and reiterating its rejection and condemnation of bloodshed and attacks against civilians.

''The UAE will play its responsible role in relieving the Libyan people and alleviating their suffering,'' Juma Mubarak Al Junaibi, Undersecretary of the Ministry, affirmed today.

In a statement, Al Junaibi said the Ministry had followed news reports about supply some of 4x4 vehicles for use in the ongoing fighting and emphasizes again that the Government of the UAE has already taken appropriate measures to ban export of these vehicles since the eruption of events there.

The UAE reaffirmed that ''It will not allow export of these vehicles or equipments that could be purchased from commercial markets out of its keenness to stop bloodshed. The concerned authorities in the UAE will follow up the strict and thorough implementation of this measure.

Speaking on the sidelines of a conference in Helsinki on Friday, Italian Prime Minsster Berlusconi said he hoped for "change like that in Tunisia and Egypt towards a democracy" that would allow Italy and Libya to keep their important economic ties.

When asked whether Italy was considering freezing Libyan state assets in line with sanctions imposed on Muamer Gaddafi and his inner circle by the United Nations and the European Union, the premier called for caution.

"We have to distinguish carefully between the stakes that belong to the Libyan people and those that belong to one family in particular," he said.

Libya has up to 3.6 billion euros ($4.9 billion) worth of shares in Italian businesses, Il Sole 24 business daily said last week.
