http://www.wsmv.com/news/27091653/detail.htmlThousands of teachers and hundreds of tea party members gathered for separate rallies at the state capitol today, despite the heavy rain.
At issue is a bill that would eliminate collective bargaining for teachers across Tennessee. The Tennessee Education Association is staunchly against the bill, while the Tea Party strongly backs it.
An estimated 350 tea party members gathered on the east side of the capitol, urging lawmakers to press forward with the bill. They say it's imperative that the plan pass in its current form and asked leaders not to come up with a compromise.
Meanwhile, thousands of Tennessee teachers gathered at Bicentennial Mall and marched through downtown to Legislative Plaza to speak out against the bill. They call the bill an unfair attack on teachers say children will ultimately be hurt by the plan.
