Poll question: Will GOP union busting finally drive ''Reagan Democrats'' back to the Democratic Party? |
|
Republicans peeled a lot of blue collar white union members starting in the 80s with their guns, god, & gays shtick, and somehow those workers didn't notice which party was working hardest to outsource whole industries to Third World countries (admittedly, some Democrats made it a little hard to tell which party was more committed to screwing workers).
But will this blatant union busting in Wisconsin, Ohio, and elsewhere drive them back to the Democratic Party?

Walker is the gift that keeps on giving to the Democrats :)

If the GOP keeps putting forward the kind of insane legislation that they've put forward for the last 3 months. It is over.
The only people that they can get to vote reliably for the GOP, is the insane right wing base. But when they do NOTHING but cater to the insane, they will alienate everyone else.

9. I believe that to be so |
|
If this is the decisive battle they've longed for, they're going to be very unpleasantly surprised at how few in numbers the nutjob base really is. They trusted their own corporate media as an accurate metric when they should have just employed it only as a weapon.

10. I can't believe they made any gains after 2006, but they have--mainly because Dems refuse to offer |
|
a real alternative beyond batshit crazy ideas only explained by seemingly sane people.

So long as said "Reagan Democrats" are not religious fundamentalists. You're never going to reach them.
Regarding the Wisconsin thing, a few I know, who I believe are going to crack ( they are peripherally informed by talking heads...they don't read and follow up ), first tried to spout the corporate media talking points but I could tell they didn't really believe it. It sounded more like they just tried to sound like they were in the know. I pressed them ( very politely, but authoritatively ) on the reality and they agreed with me. I didn't respond with any "gotcha" retorts but tried to put them in those people's positions. I really do believe it was an epiphany of sorts because I saw an honest introspection on their part: Not because it reversed strongly held beliefs, but because it made them actually think the issue through the haze of boiler plate apathy.
I hope they do follow up and vote correctly, but I don't want to overplay my hand and hound them by coming across as a pushy zealot. I think they'll be more comfortable if it seems like they figured it out on their own.

13. Maybe. But I would say right now that before they let them go |
|
they will do an all out blitz for the "guns, god and gays" morons. Look for some kind of inititive on the ballots in all fifty states.

14. It won't do much if the Democrats turn around and union bust. The WI unelected Dems have done more |
|
for the Democratic Party than any elected Democrat in the past 20 years.
