Appearing on a right-wing talk show recently, arch conservative Fox News pundit and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee had a few things to say about Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman and her status as a soon-to-be single mother.

His remarks triggered a feminist firestorm in the media, and for good reason.

This video is from ABC News, broadcast March 5, 2011.

4. How to dismiss criticism: call it a "feminist firestorm."
The truth is that any person of decent conscience with a grip on reality should be lambasting that bible beating idiot for his statements, coming fairly closely after he praised Bristol Palin to the skies for "choosing life."

The circumstances of the two women couldn't be more different, yet he chose to praise the irresponsible teenager instead of the grown and financially secure woman in a stable long term relationship.

Asshole.

6. remember, he didn't praise Bristol

17. Feminism: the radical concept that women are human beings
and are deserving of the same rights that are given to other human beings. It's yet another word that the extreme Right has twisted and perverted over the decades. We need to take it back.

Do you have to be a feminist per se to think what Fuckleberry said was ignorant and insultory?

20. A Feminist is anyone who believes that women are human beings who
deserves the same rights that are given to other human beings. Men can and are Feminists (Arsinio Hall called himself a proud feminist). I suspect that misogynists who believe (as one here on DU said) that women "are an inferior life form unworthy of notice" would have no problem with Huckbee's drivel.

At this rate, the only women left who'll vote for him are all named Duggar, and it'll be a while until they're all 18 or older.

11. He's fetishizing a piece of paper, that magic marriage certificate.
He, like all right wing assholes who think marriage is so wonderful, think that a marriage certificate will make the other person love you, respect you, and have a good relationship.

That is not true. A marriage certificate will not make someone like you or respect you. I know, I've been married to a man who EVER ONCE told me he loved me. OK I was stupid. It only took him four years to nag me into a physical breakdown. And then he said I was "faking it" and I didn't really have severe bacterial pneumonia. He said I was bribing my doctor to put me in the hospital, run up his insurance bills, and make him look bad at work, because it's all about HIM.

:banghead:

Huckabee should be promoting help for the single mothers without jobs. Instead of trying to take away their food and medical care.

Before the baby is born it's
"SACRED UNBORN LIFE"

After it's born it is a "SNIVELING LITTLE WELFARE CHEAT". Thank you, Ben Sargent for your classic cartoon.

15. And that is exactly what he was hoping for. If anything can make him
look better to the teabaggers and repugs it is having the feminists hate him. Score one for him. At this point he is not interested in what we think - he is after the repug nomination.

16. What does he want Natalie Portman to do about this?
1. Get an abortion?
2. Put on a Scarlet "A"?
3. Get married before the baby's born?
4. Go on the road with Bristol Palin and lecture about abstinence?

18. It's the idea that women can and do make their own decisons-often without any
input from a man-that's so threatening to pathetic lumps of backwards ignorance like Huckabee.
