In the Rotunda, Day 19 of the Occupation. It's been decades since I've seen anything like this. http://yfrog.com/gz997zkj

2. I think these crowds are bigger than the Vietnam
protests in the late 60's early 70's. But my memory may be faulty. The fact that it's hard to tell should tell you something about the size of these crowds in Madison. It's awesome!

14. These are definitely much larger.
Back then, it was mostly students, and the total enrollment at UW was maybe 35,000. It was a lot more exciting back then, though. National Guard troops all over campus (Jesus, I remember some of them carrying M-79 grenade launchers! No doubt teargas rounds if anything, but if one of those half-pound projectiles ever hit you…), phalanxes of riot-equipped cops charging mobs of students, tear gas everywhere, masses of students breaking down chain'link fences to get away from the cops & gas, cops throwing teargas grenades into the library--holy crap, I'm having a flashback!

Anyway, like I said, those crowds were maybe 10 or 20,000 iirc. Still awfully large for that era.

11. Thanks, Hissyspit!
This old computer is really snarky about what it will play, and what it won't.

19. Capitol was open yesterday and today
with some restrictions (no snakes, damnit), which was even more than we had hoped for after the Judge's order, which would have allowed the Dept of Admin to close it off-hours if there are no sessions or hearings going on.

It sure relieved a lot of the tension around the building.

9. We haven't seen these kind of protests since the 60s
Nam War protests. I suppose our children are coming into their own. Different reasons, but basically still their right as Americans.

12. When Senior Citizens wake up cold and hungry... when schools are closed...
..when the shelves are empty in the grocery stores... the Sheeple will wake up and realize what they have done by watching Fox News and voting Republican.

By that time.. it's going to be too late to turn back.

There Will be no more Meals On Wheels... the Fire Dept won't come to your house if it's burning and we will be required to step over the dead bodies in the street....

No Kidding...

18. and this was with our "Small Saturday" crowd
you could barely move anywhere last Saturday outside the Capitol. Body to body, which was good, because it was frickin' cold.

So, I guess we don't count.
