Help Me To Understand This Reply I Got Back From an Employer |
|
Edited on Sat Mar-05-11 09:11 PM by rsmith6621
I applied for a position on Tuesday and today got the below response...
We regret to inform you at this time you are not considered as competitive as other candidates
....W. T. F.???????...My efffin resume has five + years experience and this position would be a downgrade from where I have worked in the past doing the same exact work... Help a DU brother out..love to hear your thoughts.

3. Some HR flunkie ran your resume through a keyword scoring program. |
|
there were other candidates whose resume fit more keywords phrased like the job requirments.
What I don't understand is why they even bothered to send you a letter if they were going to make it insulting like that.

4. At least he got a reply - I've gone to interviews and then heard nothing. |
|
The advice about the keyword screening is important these days. You might have what they need, but you've got to have the right key words in your resume.

I work in purchasing for a large company, and I just bought new one of these systems for our HR department. Most companies have them. For us, it was considered not only a foolproof way to get the best people, but a way to downgrade the talent acquisition staff. It's really sad. My advice is to look at the job description when your applying and put every single keyword in your resume, even if it sounds silly.

7. Maybe not as competitive means |
|
you couldn't compete with the others when it came to salary or something? I don't know, it's an odd way of phrasing, for sure.
W.T.F is definitely an appropriate response. I wish you luck, my friend.

8. Clearly they desire sexual favors in exchange for employment. |
|
You should call them Monday morning and let them know you are willing to sexually pleasure them. During the phone conversation, clearly state who you are and what you are willing to do. Offer some concrete examples.

9. It probably means exactly what it says. |
|
Unfortunately, these days there is an awful lot of competition for just about any job. Is there anything you can do -- some additional education or certification, for example -- to give yourself an advantage over other applicants in your field?

11. First of all, it's a boilerplate response... |
|
...and you should not take it as having been custom generated for you. Second, I would not work for a company whose corporate culture would allow such a letter to go out to anyone. Whoever creates the standard form letters there has a real attitude problem and he or she is being allowed to get away with it. That says something about the company, and it's not a good sign.
Long story short: fuck 'em and the proverbial horse they rode in on.

14. I heard somewhere that they have to give you a reason if you ask. |
|
This might vary from state to state, but I heard of someone asking. Anyways, this might be a stock answer. Or there really might be someone with six years of experience, or they might have been hired on the basis of some vague "soft skill" or some other tangential ability they thought they'd need.

Throw all their shit in the trash, and move on. It's the best way to deal with job rejections - to move on and keep going.

20. Probably they figure they have someone who has the same or more |
|
experience who may have included salary history/requirements and it was less than your stated/required salary or what they expected you to require. The fact that it is a downgrade may not have been lossed on them, meaning you would be a bigger risk to look for a better position after getting hired.
Beyond that it is just a boiler plate response so no real meaning can be divined from it. It easily could have simply said 'we regret to inform you we are unable to offer you a position'.
