Yes down the road, literally, from where I am typing this. Got some good shots of the water cresting too.

in all this mess?
I grew up in California, haven't been there in years...I'm stunned by how hard this storm sequence is hitting the state. Someone posted last night about all the rain and snow at Big Bear...a lot of those trees have pretty shallow roots. Going to be so much damage before this thing is done.:(

Unless things have changed there since I last went, they will be really suffering.

I'm worried about all the wood frame construction and the damage it will be taking in SO Cal. A lot of those homes weren't built for this kind of weather. :(

33. Sadly I can...
I did the command of that flood... back in '93. Hills literally become rivers, and it ist he same places... Colonia Tres de Octubre, Sanchez Taboaada, the same places.

Per twitter 5,000 were evacuated last night.

As to San Diego... most places will be fine... but Fashion Valley is somewhat of a ghost town and 1\4 of it's parking is under water.

47. What is absolutely insane is that in this town
a few feet make all the difference.

I am where we would neet boats IF this was a fifty or hundred year flood.

The 20 year flood, we are doing just fine...

BUT... a hillside in front of Fashion Valley Mall, Friars is closed, not just because of the water... but I think it is getting unstable. There are houses at the top.

SHOULD get some bottled water though. I know better. Will do tomorrow.

49. NO BOTTLED WATER? BAD NADIN, BAD, BAD NADIN!
I kid, I really do, hey we all forget shit from time to time.

I used to live in a town like yours, Springfield Missouri. They would get an inch of rain in an hour and large parts of town were under water. But that was simply due to the lack of a decent stormwater drainage system. Is that the problem where you live or, as I suspect, is it due to your land simply can't handle it?

I went through the Missouri River five hundred year flood in '93, I should get some pictures scanned in to show you sometime. Absolutely amazing what that amount of water can do. Houses floating away, highways simply gone, it was a nightmare that took us five plus years to recover from. There are still lakes that the river dug out, fully stocked, miles away from the river.

Hey, remember, if you can't get bottled water, the water in the toilet will do in a pinch. At least the water in the back, the water in the bowl:rofl:

50. The land is water logged
we are a desert. We just got the rain of a year in five days.

And this is a river valley...

Now thankfully our water systems are far away from usual flooded zones... but this is bad enough I expect a boil water order in the next 12 hours or so.

It is just that going out NOW would be stupid, so I will bool water.

We have relatives in Rancho Valencia and keep checking on them. They aren't too far from some of the bad fires a couple of years ago and mud slides are a problem. It's just irritating around here. No flooding or slides although communities around us cannot say the same.

The Press release from Cal Fire... you'd think OUR media would be on it right? Nope, found it in the Tijuana news, where they are up to thousands of affected, hundreds displaced and one dead, so far, People are PRAYING this is not as bad as the '93 storms. From local conditions it already is. but in Tijuana they might have bit that bullet.

Yes the San Diego River crested hither than '93 by a foot.

what happens when you are UNDER WATER.

Well that would never happen.

Historic 1916 flood, yes it can happen.

Nah we have all this flood control, yada, yada.

I should go over to the planning commission meeting with photos of the Fashion Valley station. Oh and this is NOT the 1916 (read 100 year) flood.

Been there, done that many times.

The only thing that could possibly stop development in the flood plain would be insurance companies refusing to cover improvements.

The golf course provides somewhat of a buffer, but they'll probably want to develop that some day as well.
