Anti-Muslim rally starts out peaceful, breaks down, calls passing children "terrorists" and more
The silence from those who organized and promoted a California anti-Muslim protest that devolved into a revolting display of hatred has been deafening.

A major Muslim organization released a video compilation earlier this week that depicted a Feb. 13 rally in Yorba Linda promoted by several Muslim-bashing groups, conservative organizations, local and national politicians, and some Jewish leaders. Although the rally started out as a strident but peaceful protest against a Muslim fundraiser that included two highly controversial speakers, a group of about 100 protesters broke away from the main crowd and launched into a series of vicious tirades.

The video is chilling. Small children, clutching their parents’ hands fearfully as they arrive at the fundraiser, cower as people behind police lines wave American flags and scream, “Go back home! Go back home! Terrorists! Terrorists!” A tiny girl in a pink hijab walks past the camera as a man’s voice rises above the crowd: “Muhammad was a child molester!” he shouts. A woman, standing behind a police barrier, bellows at the Muslim cameraman. “You’re a terrorist!” she screams. “Go home, go home! … Do you beat your wife, too? Are you a molester? … You beat your women, your wife and your children. Why don’t you go beat up your wife like you do every night? Why not go have sex with a 9-year-old, marry her?”

The video, which also features a city councilwoman saying she knows some Marines who would be happy to send the “terrorists” attending the fundraiser “to an early meeting in paradise,” has caused an outcry from progressive journalists and many others. But not elsewhere. In fact, there was a triumphal tone from many, including some who might be expected to know better. “We protestors all represented our city well,” Yorba Linda Councilman John Anderson wrote after the event.” It was a “triumph,” crowed Pam Geller of the hate group Stop Islamization of America. The Jewish Journal wrote an account nine days after the rally that made no mention of the insults from speakers and other protesters, instead depicting a motherhood-and-apple-pie event populated by a wide array of people opposed to “hate.”

2. I'm sure these "people" wouldn't mind
repeating the process, while escorting local Muslims into cramped ghettos. Those poor children.

7. Naw, this could NEVER happen in happy, enlightened California!
That's the story from some here who are swift to label other states or regions as cesspools of idiocy & bigotry (especially the southern states). I've even seen the sentiment that 'I'm afraid to leave California!' for fear of encountering discrimination. Well, I'm here to tell ya: hate, racism & bigotry know no bounds, and if you believe your state/region is immune from these vermin, you're living in a fool's paradise.

15. That's why they're regional bigots
It's the same thing all bigots do - project their own failings on to the hated group. It's all them Southerners that are hateful and ignorant, not anyone here in my wholesome pure state of light and love and righteousness.

You'll notice that some people will go so far as to say that yes, this particular regional pocket of California is like that. Which of course that's still regional bigotry. Humans are humans all over the planet, and every square foot of earth that's occupied by them has its ignorant bigots and its enlightened souls. It's morally wrong to lump everyone who happens to live within the same square foot together and judge them as one.

The demographics in OC are changing, yes, but the old guard is still there.

12. Teagagger manners at their best
Unbelievable. I read that the blond woman has been told to resign her GOP post, in spite of trying to spin that "Hate Comes to Orange County" was doctored. Those poor children being subjected to hate.

The Southern Poverty Law Center has an article up about it. Youtube has a ton of videos up now, and the blond's spin story ain't holding water. Rec them up. This needs to stay in focus.

Recommend.

16. This made me cry
Those poor children - their parents, my God. All they were trying to do was peacefully attend a charity event.

This made me physically ill. Those so called "Americans" have no business holding an American flag, they represent everything that America is supposed to be against.

Truly, we were witnessing the terrorists -behind the fence holding the signs.

And politicians - republicans OF COURSE, feeding this hate and bigotry. Disgusting.

Karma is damned near instant now. These hate filled bigots will have to view their actions standing next to their Creator. I would not want to be them when that time comes.

beautiful little Muslim girls. I would react very poorly if anyone treated them like that. I am normally a very mellow, peaceable guy but that might change quickly in that situation.

23. From the Patriot Act's definition of terrorism:
Edited on Sun Mar-06-11 07:16 PM by pa28
(2) appears to be intended (or have the effect) – to intimidate a civilian population; influence government policy by intimidation or coercion; or affect government conduct by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping (or a threat of)”).

Looks like Ms. Pauley, in all her flag adorned splendor, was the only terrorist there. I hope the FBI gets involved.
