House GOP may actually be trying to poison us

All right, now we're starting to get suspicious. The GOP isn't just trying to decimate the EPA's ability to protect our air and water from toxins -- they're also defunding poison control centers. What the ... is this a Dorothy Sayers novel? Are the Republican reps fabricating a will and then bumping us off so they can inherit our vast fortunes? We thought this was about Pyrrhic victories over nature, health, and other "liberal" values, but it's starting to look like they are actually just trying to poison everybody.

Eliminating nearly all the money for poison control centers would save $27 million -- not even a rounding error when it comes to the deficit. Yet it is so foolish that it perfectly illustrates the thoughtlessness of the House Republican bill to cut $61 billion from the budget over the next seven months.

3. A wonderful opportunity for opening up a chain of private poison control centers!!

Hooray for the Free Market!!

Corporate America and their Congressional henchmen operate much like Sylvester McMonkey McBean in the classic Dr. Seuss story, "The Sneetches": First they make money creating problems, and then they make more money fixing the very problems they created.

4. Hot damn, I'm gonna start selling poisoning insurance.
What a wonderful new business opportunity.

Sorry, you need pre-authorization for that stomach pump. Here, fill out this form & we'll let you know our decision within a month.

5. Poison control center was the only
Good resource when my son ate some vitamins.

They talked me through counting them, figuring out how many I had given them in previous weeks, and then figuring the total iron he had consumed. We figured out that there was no way he could have ingested enough vitamins to be lethal or get sick. The ER would have pumped his stomach.

6. When my younger son downed an entire bottle of
tylenol it was poison control who, after helping us determine how many he'd taken, asked us what was our nearest hospital, please go there immediately, and they'd call ahead for us and let them know we were on our way. As soon as we walked in and gave our names, we were whisked back to a treatment area and his stomach was pumped.

Great people at poison control.

9. Well, most of the people they help at the poison control centers ...
... are babies anyway.

There'll be plenty more of them around anyway once the republican deny all access to birth control.
:sarcasm:
