Pricey wish-list found on train
Edited on Wed Dec-22-10 04:15 PM by Liberal_in_LA
a real list, not a fantasy one. looks like wish-list writer could reasonably hope to recieve the items

All I want for Christmas is...well...everything...

Apparently the recession or whatever we're calling it now isn't hitting everybody the same way. At least not on Wall Street.

"Velvet in Dupont," a rider on the Metro-North railroad (which carries much of the financial industry's workforce back to their bedroom communities in Westchester and Fairfield Counties) found this Christmas wish list left by a seatmate who got off in Mamaroneck, N.Y.

The list has everything. Goyard Saint Louis purse ($1,065), check. Givenchy NightingalehHandbag, check. Louis Vuitton Speedy ($665), check. Cartier Large Tank Watch ($2,500), check.

Or would the cookware just be for decor? :hi:

7. Check out Ebay
the prices are often good but the shipping is what might kill you. That stuff is heavy.

I have a lot of cast iron so I am good to go. Ebay is a good idea for shopping high end items though. I was able to replace the bottom of my La Cloche baker for next to nothing.:)

8. I have a couple of pieces of Le Creuset - worth every penny my hubby spent on them
as gifts for me. I call them my "magic pots" because everything I cook in them turns out great.

16. I swear by cast iron. I have the normal stuff. LOVE it.
Le Creuset, like regular cast iron, is an investment that can last generations. And everything is just "better" cooked in it. I do have a low heat stainless skillet that I have carried around forever. Love it too.

5. Rich are never effected by recession ... they will
always buy what they want .... they just pay more for it ... and possibly buy less of it ...
Just like everyone else .... the Middle and upper middle class is the same way ...
want Rib-eye ... but get NY Strip .... etc .... travel less .... vacation as a group ...
(like on the Outer Banks ... 2 or even 3 small families rent a cottage together ...)
etc ... most folks will still get what they want ... just get it other ways ... maybe less
convenient but the end game is the same ....

6. She (I hope it's a she) has a wide range of priced on that list
and I doubt she thinks she'll get it all.

However, I find it hard to find fault in anyone who has the taste to prefer flame Le Creuset cookware.

I wish for Louboutins, too, but I ain't going to get them! LOL!

The Crueset (in flame), however, I am buying one piece at a time. I have four pieces, bought over four years, and I can't blame a person for wishing for it. It's awesome!

14. I used to buy Chanel foundation
when I could afford it. I only had to buy it once a year (so that's worth it); but it cost me between $65-90. To me,that's expensive for foundation.

26. When I was 19, I bought some Chanel eyeshadow. I still remember
that quad. They weren't even good colors for me (took me a long time to figure out the best makeup for me - I'm not the brightest bulb on the tree.) But I remember how I felt so rich being able to buy that quad, and every time I used it. I had my first real job and I was determined to buy something of my dreams and I did. I have no regrets over that purchase, although I've never purchased anything by Chanel since then. It was a silly luxury item that I probably shouldn't have bought but I'm glad I have the memory of that.

18. I don't understand why we should care.
My employment situation sucks and the gift giving won't be much this year, but we'll have a good Christmas. We always do. Whether this person gets what she wants or not won't effect us at all. I wish her a Merry Christmas.

19. It could be a multiple choice thing
I try to ask for several different items so that I am suprised. That's how it was when I was little and made Christmas lists. I marked many things in the catalog but only got a few. My husband's parents had more money and I was horrified when she got everything that I marked in a catalog she gave me. I thought that spoiled the fun. Now I ask for more expensive things so she doesn't buy me everything.

20. I was passing through the rich side of town and stopped in a new...
liquor store for a sixer.

They have a special, glass-encased, locked room where they keep the high end stuff.

Saw a 4,000 dollar bottle of Cognac in there.

The thing is, most of the really rich people would probably order something to be shipped to them.

The expensive stuff in that store is there just for impulse buys and last minute Christmas procrastinators.

21. No casting judgment here...
For all we know, the listmaker is only expecting one or two items off of the list. It does say "Dream Wish List" after all. We don't know how old they are, what situation they're in, what their income is from, how often they exchange presents, etc.

I'm also not sure the person who originally found the list really should have published it online. It's kind of a private letter, after all.
