OK, so what did Schumer do to Coburn et al. to get them to do a 180 |
|
on the 9/11 responders bill?
I know there was a compromise on the money and length of time the bill would cover, but I'm assuming Schumer knew all along what his bottom line was gonna be and started out high.
And no, I don't think public opinion mattered one damn bit to Coburn...

1. I hope he had photos of live boys or dead girls and that they somehow -- oops -- |
|
just manage to slip out by accident anyway. That's how much I hate those vermin.
But you make a good point - that he probably started out high. Knowing how to play the game.

4. Could be it was the last card he had to play to get it done. |
|
He said he was told by Steny Hoyer to get that bill done in the Senate because the House is gonna be gone by the end of tomorrow...

3. I think that FOX hitting congress over the weekend actually had a huge impact |
|
Shep Smith was furious last week after watching Jon Stewarts show with the 911 responders and was going off on congress while talking with Chris Wallace. Fox's newstaff picked up the ball and hit a lot of Rep's hard over the weekend and fanned the flames. I think that they realized that they had to find a compromise or face the public backlash.

5. Probably told him the GOP would no longer own 9/11 |
|
Nor would they ever be able to use it again.

6. Yep. And I think now that Jon Stewart had a bigger impact than I did when I first saw it. |
|
Those responders were so down to earth. They are the real deal and lots of younger voters watch the show.
I hope the pukes saw their dominion over all things 9/11 just slip away...

That episode was probably one of Jon Stewart's best as far as impact it had.

9. They stripped out provisions to pay for the bill which involved closing tax loopholes |

for foreign corporations.
Don't know if they put in some other means to pay for it.

12. Coburn made a fool of himself by saying that |
|
there was no hearings. The public humiliation must have got to him.
