Mother's boyfriend 'disciplined' 6 year old by making her stand on 1 leg holding heavy cans

BEDFORD - A Bedford County couple were arrested Friday after injuring a 6-year-old girl in what has been called the "worst case of physical child abuse" seen in recent memory in the county.

A visitor to the girl's house on Feb. 27 saw her curled up and shaking on her bed, treating her injuries with a bag of frozen peas; the visitor immediately took her to the hospital for treatment, the Bedford County District Attorney's Office said. The girl had bruises all over her body with substantial swelling in her elbow, face and lip and brush burns covering her entire back.

The girl's 8-year-old sister told police that her younger sibling was disciplined by Loshaw, who would make her stand on one leg on top of a cooler, holding heavy bags of cans out from her body, police said.

The sister said her younger sibling would often times fall off of the cooler, smashing her face, elbows and body onto the floor and the cans.
