Poll question: Could Facebook be Democrats secret weapon and accidental Trojan Horse?
Edited on Mon Mar-07-11 01:52 AM by Quixote1818
The reason I say this is because since the Wisconsin thing started I have seen TONS of my Democratic friends posting all kinds of articles etc. on FB and hardly anything from the Conservatives. My Facebook experience has looked more like DU than anything else lately. And not just the Wisconsin Union thing, but all kinds of issues that have Democrats riled up right now. I have just under 200 friends on FB and probably about the same number who are Democrats as Republicans. What I think Facebook does is forces a lot of Republicans and Independents to see information they never would have seen otherwise because their friends are posting it constantly. Sure many of them might not read it but many also will. Again, let me just say that my Facebook home pages have looked like DU threads the past few weeks and not because of my posts.

So is my experience the exception or the rule? What is your Facebook experience like? More Dem or more Rep? However, if you have mostly Democratic friends it is probably best not to vote in the poll. A more accurate sample will come from those who have close to equal numbers of Democratic and Republican friends.

I suppose one thing to consider is that Democrats are more riled up right now which can cause things to look skewed but I don't remember many Republicans posting angry stuff during the health-care debates when the Tea Party was freaking out.

1. I picked #3 but it's not quite right
I do see a lot of stuff from Dem friends about Wisconsin and other pertinent issues. I also see a lot of stuff from right wingers that is more general in nature-usually some ginned up phony outrage meme.

2. I do see some Republicans posting there...
They tend to be spouting the normal right-wing talking points, but they do it calmly. It looks to me as though they really believe what they say.

3. My FB friendships/family are pretty evenly divided between Reps/Dems...
but most relevant cultural/political postings are from my Democratic friends. As a poster above observed, my Repub friends/family are either repeating tired/false memes, or are generally apolitical except on specific subjects.

4. Many family members and older friends have me on Ignore on Facebook
because of my Lefty thoughts and ideas. Too bad.
