E-mail sent to me about military pay. |
|
I think it is a hoax or some made up stuff. A good friend sent it to me and it is not in her makeup to send stuff like this. Supposedly the actress Cindy Williams wrote something about our military already make enough money and should not get more and this airman responded vociferously. I don't believe it and want to let her know. I tried Snopes but got nowhere simply because I didn 't know in which category to look. Does anyone here know what I am talking about? If so, your help is desired.

14. here's the truth about that email: |
|
Q: Did Obama accuse veterans of "selfishness" and whining? Would he have forced them to "pay for their war injuries"? A: This chain e-mail contains fabricated quotes and misrepresents a budget idea that the White House scrapped. The quotes were intended as satire. http://www.factcheck.org/2009/05/would-obama-have-soldiers-pay-for-own-war-injuries/

7. That's it! The same one I received. Thanks. |

My sister seems to think I spend too much time on my computer and I told her I get my knowledge from Democratic Underground so I have to stay on it. I appreciate this information and will enjoy letting my friend know it is screwed up.

16. A lot of us spend too much time on our computers |
|
I do because I am not very mobile anymore and everything I want to do hurts. So I spend time on the computer, do needlework, or read - all of which hurt, too but at least they keep my mind engaged.
The secret of using Snopes search is to pick a major name or subject out of the forwarded message and use that for the search phrase.

5. It was a Cindy Williams but not the actress. She had worked in a number of capacities in the Clinton |
|
administration, not the Obama administration. You can go to snopes.com and read the entire piece.

6. One thing I've learned abuot emails forwards |
|
If it combines the military or religion with celebrities or professors, it's horseshit. In other words, it's like 99.9% of all emails forwards.

If an e-mail says "forward this to everyone you know", it's a hoax. There are no known exceptions to this rule.

11. Good advice; do you mind if I forward it to everyone I know? |
|
But those hoaxers are a clever bunch. Many of the hoaxes now carry a disclaimer that they've been checked out by Snopes and are 100% guaranteed true. So, if you can't trust something anonymous on the internet, what can you trust?
