I just donated to Planned Parenthood |
|
March 10th is National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers. In light of the current attacks on Planned Parenthood - both on a National level and in my local state - I just mailed them a Thank You card with a pretty good sized check in it (enough to pay for between 1 and 3 abortions based on how much PP says they cost on their website ... maybe more if this cost on their website is more than the actual cost). I even told them that I would prefer the funds to be used to pay for abortions but that they were welcome to use them any way they can. This evening I plan to send the following letter to the primary sponsors of a bill which passed in AZ which will disallow tax deductions for charitable contributions to organizations which provide abortions. I plan to send this letter every time I donate to PP. It won't change their ideology but is a way for me to say "F**k you" on a regular basis to them in a way which does not actually include any direct attack of them!
Dear Representative,
In response to the passage of HB 2384, today I mailed a check to Planned Parenthood of Arizona in the amount of $XXX - $XX for each yes vote. I have never donated money to Planned Parenthood of Arizona prior to this. I had not planned to donate money to Planned Parenthood of Arizona prior to this. However, my disgust at your sponsorship and passage of this unreasonable and unnecessary bill has prompted my actions. And, until you stop attacking women’s fundamental health needs (including cancer screenings and well woman exams for low income women, both of which Planned Parenthood provides) and Planned Parenthood specifically or until you are voted out of office, I will continue to donate to Planned Parenthood of Arizona every single year. Every dollar I donate to Planned Parenthood is $1 LESS that I will donate to any other charity in Arizona. I will specifically avoid donating to ANY charity which you endorse or with which you are in any way affiliated. I also plan to donate money to the campaign funds of my representatives (both of whom voted against this bill) because of this bill. I have not donated to either of them before but in appreciation for their vote on this specific bill, I will now donate money to them. I also plan to encourage all of my friends and colleagues to do the same.

2. I gave them money too last month |

And it was the first time for me as well. I did it right after I found out those right wing bleep sticks in the US House had voted to deny Planned Parenthood funding.
