For a couple days now, observers at Ras Jdir (border crossing between Tunisia & #Libya) have been very concerned...

There's been a sudden drop in the number of refugees crossing from #Libya into Tunisia; from 15-20K per day to less than 2K...

Observers have been very concerned about the sudden drop, wondering what horrors may be happening on the other side of the border. #Libya

Fears were compounded when gunfire was reported at Abu Kammash, a town 20 kms away from the border crossing. #Libya

Today a caller from Misurata said that many Africans are being rounded up in an area called Naimah, some 10 kms from Zliten.

These are not African mercenaries but rather legal African residents who used to live in #Libya. They're being rounded up there.

Source from Misurata said they were being rounded up into boats to be sent across to Europe to force an "illegal immigration" crisis.

The source said there were eyewitnesses to this. He also said black Africans were targeted out of all other immigrants. #Libya

For a bit of background, the Nafusa (aka Western) mountains extend in an east-west direction from Nalut to Gharyan, around 200+ kms. #Libya

The people of the Nafusa mountains joined the revolution early on - including towns as Zintan, Nalut, Gharyan, and Yafran.

They were recently criticized for being too slow to pick up arms. I say they really made up for it over the past couple days! #Libya

Got these news early but since they concerned movements of revolutionaries decided to hold off until they themselves make it public. #Libya

They hit #Gaddafi troops hard, with really well laid out and well executed plans; professional stuff, not just volunteer action. #Libya

They attacked the back lines of Gaddafi's troops, along the Sorman road. Multiple attacks, all hugely success

ضباط تم اعدامهم لرفضهم قتل الثوار ، الثوار قاموا بغارة على تجمع في تقاطع الطريق المؤدي إلى مدينة صرمان والتقاطع المؤدي إلى مدينة تاغمة وبتوفيق من الله دحر الثوار قوات النظام ولكن ما يدمع العين أن الثوار وجدوا مجموعة من الضباط تم تقييدهم واعدامهم من الخلف وبعض من الجنب في الرأس بعد رفضهم قتل الثوار ، وتم أسر أحد جنود النظام الذي روى قصة اعدامهم ومن ضمنهم أخوه ، وبعد أن رأي الإعدام ورفضه القتاال تم ضربه بالبندقية على رأسه مما أفقده الوعي ، وكان هذا سبب قدره الله له لينجوا ويروي القصة بنفسه ، وهو موجود حالياً بمدينة الزنتان بالإضافة إلى بعض الأسرى الآخرين .
تم إعدام الضباط ومن بينهم العقيد المبروك علي محمد الطرابلسي آمر المجموعة ، ووجدوا مقيدي الأيدي والأرجل بخيوط الأحدية العسكرية وأحدهم بسلك توصيل كهربائي خاص بالتلفاز ، وقد قام الثوار بانتشال ما استطاعوا من جثث جنود النظام بعد تيقنهم من أنهم ليبيين ، هذا بالإضافة إلى مجموعة من قتلى النظام الذين تصدوا للثوار قام الثوار بجلب جثتهم أيضاً لتسليهم لأهلهم ، وقد قام النظام بنسف موقع المعركة نهار اليوم 7-3-2011 بالطائرات في محاولة منه لإخفاء آثار المعركة .

ولكن ما يجب ذكره أن نظام القدافي لا يدين بولاء لأي كان وكل همه هو كيف يحافظ على كريسه ولو كان الثمن ضرب أبناء الشعب الليبي بعضهم ببعض .... الله المستعان ولا حول ولا قوة إلا بالله ... إن لله وإن إليه راجعون .

OK, I'll go back to #Gaddafi's "grand plan to encircle the east" which failed early on. Interesting nonetheless, details follow... #Libya

It appears Gaddafi's plan was to launch an invasion of the east on two fronts: further east (Egypt) and from the south (Kufra). #Libya

Ahmad Gaddaf-al-Dam was to handle the Egypt part by recruiting mercenaries and launching attacks on Tobruk across the border.

Of course Gaddaf-al-Dam failed to recruit anyone, the tribes there rejected him, and he ended up seeking asylum in Egypt.

Saif-al-Islam was supposed to handle recruiting the Kufrah tribes to launch an attack from the south on Ajdabia & Benghazi. #Libya

Saif #Gaddafi sent three planes full of weapons & cash to Kufrah. Before the first plane landed, Kufrah had joined the revolution. #Libya

The revolutionaries at Kufrah captured the first plane and took weapons, 18 million Libyan dinars and some gold bullion on board.

The weapons were distributed among the residents; the cash & gold was handed to Kafrah's bank. #Libya

Sources say Saif #Gaddafi went "hysterical" when this plan failed and had a major fight with his brother Khamis. #Libya

Khamis is pretty much the "strong man" among #Gaddafi's sons. Saif is supposed to be the "smart" one. I'm not kidding. #Libya

Of course #Gaddafi's Kufrah plan failed some 10 days ago. The details are just seeping through now. Interesting but irrelevant now.

The only reason why I bring up the Kufrah plan now is that Gaddafi seems to have spilled the beans a couple days ago! #Libya

He responded to the gun battle in Tripoli by claiming he's "taken Tobruq and surrounding Benghazi." Would have been the Kufrah plan. #Libya

So basically he responded to a crisis in Tripoli by declaring the success of a plan that failed 10 days earlier. #Libya

As for the nature of the gun battle in Tripoli that morning, still very speculative. Many rumors about in-fighting, etc. #Libya

But for sure something big happened in Tripoli that morning. We probably won't know for sure for days. #Libya

An Appeal to the Military Council of the Free Libya

This appeal is not of the greatest eloquence. Please recognize and accept that the urgency and direness of your situation compels language that more sedate times would not be needed.

You have a responsibility to which you are not responding in an adequate manner. You cannot sit in the comfort of Benghazi and expect that the forces of Gaddafi will surrender simply because the people of free Libya told Gaddafi to go.

Nor should you accept the fact that members of the armed forces and of the State Security apparatus who have defected simply take off their uniforms and go home.

Neither you nor anyone in the world’s community should expect that a regime with a vast, well armed and viscous security apparatus, well practiced after successfully oppressing for 42 years the 6 million people of Libya, is going to be anything other than a formidable opponent.

Nor should you mock and underestimate the rhetoric of the man in #Tripoli. He has successfully held in thrall his supporters for decades. Under threat to his very existence, he is only going to turn up that rhetoric to bolster the shaky loyalty of his rapidly shrinking band of followers.

You have a responsibility to communicate to the forces under your command and especially to the people of free #Libya that the absurdity of Gaddafi’s claims are at the center of a clever and considered propaganda campaign which you need to counter in a serious and urgent manner.

You have a responsibility to properly secure and defend the area of free #Libya. This needs to be achieved in a much more concerted and planned manner than at present. You need to marshall and deploy all the arms you have at your disposal. Every captured working tank or other arms needs to be manned and turned round and pointed the other way. Not uselessly burnt in a pointless symbolic act.

You, the Military Council of the free Libya, as protectors of the people of free Libya, along with peace loving people everywhere, long to see the demise of the monster in Tripoli but you need to recognize and take counter measures against the fact that, with each passing day, the extent and nature of the atrocities of the regime will increase.

You need to show courage and sound military leadership to the forces under you. You require adequate arms to succeed against a well armed opponent who will not scruple as how their arms are employed. Therefore, should you be offered military assistance, you need to have the courage and forbearance to accept it.

You need to take action to secure as quickly as possible a peaceful and prosperous free #Libya. Therefore you need to do everything possible to secure your gains and achieve your objective.

Above all you need to provide leadership. The military in a free #Libya needs to have a proud place in the nation. You need to establish that pride now. Are you providing that leadership or are you sitting in the comfort of #Benghazi watching the youth of #Libya, who gave you the freedom you presently enjoy, being needlessly slaughtered at the front lines due to being inadequately supported by you?

The lives of the youth of free #Libya should not be squandered. They are your future. They are your sons. They deserve much more support than they are getting.

And the people of free Libya, you have a responsibility too.

Having lived under the dictator in #Tripoli every one of you presently alive in Libya is well aware of the strength and wiles of the man. Those of you who have thrown off his yoke should recognize and take action against that strength for it is no less, despite the fact that you have freed yourselves of it.

In fact you have not freed yourselves of it. For as long as he, the mad man in Tripoli, lives on Libyan soil, you are not free. There is no free #Libya.

Each of you in free Libya is wasting your time and effort and lives are needlessly lost by calling for him to step down.

He has told you in unequivocal language: he is not stepping down.

Don’t call for him to step down. Give him a push.

No attempt to achieve any semblance of normal life should be made by a single person in free Libya. All effort must be directed to the riddance of the one obstacle to a united and free Libya.

For, as long as he remains alive on Libyan soil you, every person alive in Libya, remain under his dictatorship.

(I have an especial fondness for fighters from the mountains.)

If you can choose your ground, time to fight, do so. At the moment, attriting enemy forces, rendering them ineffective, and tying them down important. Use your strengths, don't play to theirs.

It'd be nice to win everything in one big rush, but the bandits don't seem ready to just collapse. The gains made were significant; hold the important(!) locations; think about how else to make gains. Do what's effective, within your power, not overly costly.

My "understanding" is that in at least one location, regular (popular) forces are being (re)formed, reinvigorated with volunteers. These could be deployed later, once first-wave forces (some very professional it seems) have set-up the latter battle.
