A classic car club parading down the street in front of the Madison state capital? And each car will have a sign that reads:

Built by union labor

or

Union made!

Everyone loves a parade and classic cars! Why not put the two together as a reminder of the importance of unions?

edited for word choice...

3. Madison, WI, Early march....
There's salt on those roads. Road Salt + Classic Cars = Very bad.

As much as I love this idea, It's just not right for this time of year... Now if things keep dragging on through mid-late April, go ahead!!!

5. True, I thought about the difference between those who own classic cars and union workers.
But, as someone who until recently owned a 1965 Chevelle "300-Deluxe" and who isn't rich, I can say there are many folks out there with modest means who own classic cars.

Mine looked just like this one:

...had it for 23 years. Always wanted to restore it but didn't have the time, space, or money. Finally sold it to a restorationist.

6. Your idea is fine... it just doesn't include OTHERS.
And "union workers" aren't poor.

Where are homeless people in your parade?

Where are single mothers earning minimum wage?

Where are disabled people who can't get disability, and are being cut in the coming budget cuts?

In short, where are the rest of us?

It isn't just the classic cars, which is actually a fine idea.... its that this is such a closed club.

8. And Jews! and Muslims! And dog walkers! And GLBT people! And single moms
who earn slightly more than minimum wage but have no health care! and Hindus! and atheists! And orphans!

If you attack everyone for not explicitly inviting you to an event, then you're going to waste a lot of valuable energy that could be better spent ORGANIZING an event of your own. You're on the computer most of the day. You know people. you are passionate about poverty-so why not put it together? Unless this is just another thread hijacking.

An old car parade is a good attention getter. A million homeless people would also be a good attention getter. Neither negates the value of the other, and they don't HAVE to be combined.

7. No one is stopping you from organizing your own parade
so don't try to stop anyone else's good idea.

14. NO! The perfect is the mortal enemy of the good
If an idea isn't perfect, then there's no sense in carrying it forward. And a more perfect recipe for doing absolutely nothing would be hard to find. However, if a more perfect idea comes along to keep anyone from doing anything, I'm all for it.

(Reminds me of church committee work where we spend 3/4 of our time fretting about how people who can't be bothered to attend meetings might react to a proposal.)
