********Thom Hartmann Appreciation Thread**********

I don't think I've ever done an appreciation thread before, but this morning I heard Thom Hartmann credit DU once again as a source, this time as the place where he first heard the story about the CEO, the Tea Partier, the Union Guy and the Cookie. Now and again I'm reminded that he's one of the smartest upholders of the liberal left that I know of, opinionates, yes, but with a good head on his shoulders and a keen knowledge of history and the human heart. So, if he's dropping by, or even if he's not, I'd like to say I'm proud he's representing my views to those who might be persuaded and calling out those who won't.

Sometimes he's too cerebral, especially when he imitates the Charlie Rose style of asking a long-winded question, and the way he lets the CONs go on and on without smacking them sane makes me a little nuts, but aside from those minor quibbles, I'm proud to be on his side.

Rachel and Thom are right there at the top of my list - intelligent, mature and considerate. The latter in that they are always open to other input.

I listen to it twice a day, at noon on KPTK and at three on KTNF.

46. i once helped get thom kicked off the local station

he was on a local station that was dabbling in progressive radio of and on. thom was on as an independent and the station, which had some really shitty pseudo progressives and some right wing programming on was thinking about the new air america. i wanted all progressive because the station had a history of going back to RW so i kept calling the manager, with others, to go to air america. they did and thom was off, unfortunately.

but then he came back on and now it's a great independant lineup with miller in the morning and mike malloy at night.

the only beef i have with thom is that he, like many in progressive media except, noticeably, randi rhodes, downplays the significance of RW radio and often blames fox TV for crap started and blown up primarily on radio. randi has said that radio is now more important than TV politically.

In addition to all the accolades mentioned above, the thing that impresses me the most is that Thom consistently has on dyed-in-the-wool right-wingers whom he fearlessly debates.

The best at representing the progressive viewpoint (along with Amy Goodman).

59. I took my 81 year old mom

to hear him speak a local bookstore here and I bought her Threshold and Screwed. After he spoke for about an hour, he sat and signed every persons book and got up and took pics with everyone who requested it. It was a real highlight for my mom to have her picture taken with him. He was very warm and personable. It was obvious he appreciated everyone who waited in line to talk to him and get their books signed. Thanks Thom!

he and his family were my neighbors when my first daughter was born (home birth) and he happened in at the birth and took pictures... he hired me to work in a store he managed and played tricks mercilessly :) ... I moved to Vermont, he moved to Vermont (although we had no knowledge of each other)... I have been listening to his program as long as he has been on the air... He is truly a fine man with a very fine family!

I was sorry he moved from the Pacific Northwest. He lived for a few years in Portland, Oregon on a houseboat on the Willamette River (pronounced Will-am-et and it means "river without sides"). Portland has great beer and has more micro-breweries than any other city in the USofA.
