Florida Republicans want to make it a felony to take a photo of a farm.
Edited on Mon Mar-07-11 03:19 PM by stevenleser
In this latest installment of Republican/Teabagger wingnuttery, Florida Republicans want to make it a felony to take a picture of a farm. Why? Because:

"The specific freedom-enhancing element of this particular initiative is that apparently freedom-hating animal rights activists have been known to secretly document farm activities in order to advance socialism."

4. That's our countrymen on the opposite side of the aisle. :-(
These are really folks that should be nowhere near the control of a country, or machinery for that matter.

Oh I get it! Republicans having sex with animals. Quite frankly, I would not want to see pictures of that either.

10. Nothing is so rage-inducing as the sight of someone photographing a farm!
And I think we really need to stop people from taking pictures at scenic overlooks: hasn't anybody else noticed how many foreigners bring cameras to US tourist sites?

16. There's only one reason - to prosecute people for undercover factory farm filming.
Florida has some of the most disgusting and stomach-churning shit going on in their factory farms. Of course, those same farms are HAPPY to pay off their Republican politicians to support this bill so that "animal rights" sorts will be discouraged from infiltrating their obscene operations to expose the tragic abuse of animals to the rest of the world. It has nothing to do with "landscapes".

18. ...and puppy mills or any other animal enterprise out there.
Sadly enough, if it does pass and it forces folks like HSUS, PETA, et al to stop infiltrating, all it will do is push the practice underground. Folks will continue to do it, just different kinds of folks. The kind of folks that, as I understand it, steal the animals and break all kinds of shit on the way out.

20. I doubt the puppy mills are pumping as money into the GOP, but yes, you are correct.
They don't want people knowing how they abuse animals. Meat isn't just murder, it is torture in many cases (but I'll admit that it isn't all).

22. right after I graduated HS I did IT support at a poultry plant
in panhandle florida. My dad was actually in charge of security there and that is how I got the job. They had strick rules about photography in the plant.
Every access had signs posted, "No cameras allowed - Even on Cell Phones"

Workers could bring them in but had to lock them in their lockers. A couple of workers were caught taking pictures (of each other) and got off with warnings.

The rationale was twofold. The first being video from Peta types.
But they were also concerned with corporate espionage. It seems that one company is always trying to steal design ideas from another.

But then I had video tapes of the entire plant :)
