Fitzgerald of WI: On vacation from reality
When my daughter sent me this link, I asked her if she was sure it was real. The letter from Fitzgerald to one of the exiled WI 14 seemed over the top.

She assured me that the Wheeler Report is a real publication, not made up. David Wheeler publishes all of the Capitol's public correspondence, memos and notices.

1. Yes. That's a real letter.

But what were we expecting? Republicans to actually come to IL to negotiate?

This is their best option at this point. We're lucky there weren't five more threats attached.

3. I would never put anything like this in writing.
And I am someone who has a tendency to be too blunt, and to have a big mouth when I get angry.

If Fitzgerald had any sense at all, he would have been more diplomatic. Diplomacy would at least leave the door open for future negotiation. Fitzgerald seems to think that they will always have the upper hand, and not have to negotiate with Democrats. THAT is the vacation from reality.

5. It was designed for public consumption
This isn't a personal letter between the two. It's a press release intended to look like a reply.

Of course, so was our initial request for a meeting.

2. I'm assuming since he's the majority leader, he's been there long enough to recall him.
Good chance that will happen.

6. Nope.

It isn't a question of how long he's been in office. It's a question of how long it has been since the start of his current term (which began two months ago). It's the even-numbered districts that have seen more than a year of their current term.

Good chance that will happen.

He won his district by more than 2:1. I wouldn't hold my breath.

8. That's ok. These are the kinds of guys you WANT to stay in office.
They make great targets to tie the rest of the caucus to.

4. Words fail me. 'Over the top' does not begin to describe this
combination of lies, distortions, thuggish threats and buffoonery.

Fitzgerald should now move to the top of the list of Republican state senators facing recall.

12. I believe I speak for assholes everywhere...
...in declaring that we are all grievously offended at being compared to the Fitzgeralds.

11. Why is this not getting more attention?
Don't moderate voters want maturity in their politicians?
