31. At this time, Charlie Sheen is all about---Charlie Sheen. |
|
I will say, though, that he is performing a public service by letting the world see what an episode of full-blown mania and addiction look like.
The world can also see how powerless his family is to do anything to help him, because he continues to be in denial...his parents are suffering and his children are suffering.
BTW, my son is a Generation X'er, and he would take great exception to the fact that you even put Hunter S. Thompson and Charlie Sheen in the same sentence.
I hope Mr. Sheen will wake up, get well, and use the talents that he has for the good of everyone in his family AND this nation.

i suggest reading some HST, in more depth than you apparently have, before trying to find a parallel...
other than 'unique individuals', the comparison seems uninformed at best...
on the other hand, as Charlie Robison sang in 'Sunset Boulevard':
Well, i wish i had my picture on the Rolling Stone today I wish that the Enquirer spread a rumor that i was gay I wish i had some buddies, some movie stars and such Cause i probably wouldn't worry about the two of us as much
And i'd spend all my money on caviar and cocaine And i would not remember how you broke my heart today
You know i, i wish i had a super model so skinny and so wild And a waitress in nevada, she says she's carrying my child I'd drive down sunset boulevard, my hair blowin' in the wind I'd stop at fancy restaurants and they'd finally let me in
And i'd spend all my money on caviar and cocaine And i would not remember how you broke my heart today
Yeah, i wish i had my picture with the Rolling Stones today And i wish the Enquirer would spread a rumor that i was gay I wish i knew a movie star, someone like Charlie Sheen 'cause if he'd hang out with Kato Kaelin Well i guess he'd hang out with me
And i'd spend all my money on caviar and rogaine And i would not remember how you broke my heart today

In fact he got his ass kicked by the Hells Angels trying to prevent one of them from beating a woman.
Also, Hunter Thompson ended his life with more brain cells than Sheen had before he snorted his first line.

Those two have nothing in common.
Hunter handled his drug excesses just fine, and actually reported on events in a way that made the madness of the late 60's and the '70's palatable for many of us.
I'd suggest you read his book on the Hells Angels and tell me where Charlie Sheen fits with that kind of balls.

72. Charlie Sheen is no where near the brilliance of Hunter Thompson. |
|
Not even close.
It's like Sheen is trying to prove to everyone that he's not a child anymore by acting like a spoiled, brat.
Unlike Thompson, Sheen will burn out soon enough. He lacks real staying power, conviction and imagination and when the newness of "winner" fails to garner attention he'll get lonely and try to regain that 'high' that catapulted him to where he is at this moment. So eventually he'll return to heavy drug and alcohol use and it seems almost a sure bet he'll be found dead in a trashed out hotel room with a suitcase of cocaine by his side before he's 50.
