Availability of black market alcohol, prostitutes, and drugs
--------------------------------------------- ---------------

¶4. (C) Alcohol, though strictly prohibited by Saudi law and custom, was plentiful at the party’s well-stocked bar, well-patronized by Halloween revellers. The hired Filipino bartenders served a cocktail punch using “sadiqi,” a locally-made “moonshine.” While top-shelf liquor bottles were on display throughout the bar area, the original contents were reportedly already consumed and replaced by sadiqi. On the black market, a bottle of Smirnoff can cost 1,500 riyals when available, compared to 100 riyals for the locally-made vodka. It was also learned through word-of-mouth that a number of the guests were in fact “working girls,” not uncommon for such parties.
JEDDAH 00000443 002.2 OF 002
Additionally, though not witnessed directly at this event, cocaine and hashish use is common in these social circles and has been seen on other occasions.

¶5. (C) Comment: Saudi youth get to enjoy relative social freedom and indulge fleshly pursuits, but only behind closed doors -- and only the rich.

4. Yes, that's true.
It would be nice if the lid was blown off all the Arab sheikdoms, whose rich royals live like Roman emperors on the oil money they get, while their subjects live in poverty and are subject to unfair religious laws and justice.

at least another $35 billions in plebeian appeasement cash distribution.

And us at least another $1/gallon at the pump to cover their costs, and speculators' greed.

Thanks US government, for investing in the strategic reserve Sheik Yerboutis when we could have been investing in peaceful alternative power for the last 35+ years.

We're governed by people who are richer than us too.

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Members-of-US-Congress-Get-cnbc-1255923366.html?x=0&.v=1

Excerpt:

General Electric (NYSE: ge), parent company of CNBC, is No. 1, with 82 current members of Congress listing it. Rounding out the top five are: Bank of America (NYSE: bac) (63), Cisco Systems (NASDAQ: csco) (61), Proctor & Gamble (NYSE: pg) (61) and Microsoft (54).

In another context, however, Beltway watchers might find it unsettling that some of the most widely-held stocks are those of companies at the center of the financial crisis in 2008-2009.

"The most popular investment among congressional members reads as a who's who list of the most powerful corporate political forces in Washington, D.C. -- companies that each spend millions, if not tens of millions of dollars each year lobbying federal officials," states the CRP report.

In addition to Bank of America, Goldman Sachs (NYSE: gs) , Wells Fargo(NYSE: wfc) , JPMorgan Chase (NYSE:JPM - News) and Citigroup(NYSE: c) were popular holdings. All of them received funding under the TARP. Morgan Stanley, General Motors and AIG are not on the list.

Another big sector is health care-drugs, which, like financial services, was the subject of major reform legislation in 2009.

Drug industry giants like Pfizer (NYSE: pfe) , for instance, ranked seventh on the list, with 49 members disclosing ownership. Rivals Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: jnj) and Merck (NYSE: mrk) also made the list of 50 companies.

The study indicates that party affiliation is not a key factor in the increase of lawmakers' personal assets. Twelve Democrats and seven Republicans were among the 20 congressmen with the greatest annual increases. That ratio mirrors the overall party breakdown of the current Congress.

The CRP study is by no means precise science. The group notes: "Members of Congress are only required to report their wealth and liabilities in broad ranges. It's therefore impossible to precisely determine how much value their assets are worth...

He is also an anointed one.

To his credit, he never campaigned on "family values."

Debunked again and again.

No, this particular cable is not earth-shattering, but it is confirming and specific (assuming you choose to believe whoever wrote it) and there are plenty Americans who don't know it and many who will continue to not know it because all they hear from MSM is nothing new here, move along.

with the King of Jordan. At that time Lake Geneva had the most advanced state of the art "home theater" among other things.
I was very close with some of the Bunnies, and one long tall Bar Bunny from Milwaukee then.

I read it in the Guardian where they linked to the cable on wiki. How come it takes this long to reach people's ears here?

And more importantly, is it going topple the Saudis next?

35. Some of the young Saudi sheiks used to live in San Diego; I wrote about one of their mansions - wow.

It was the "before" in a house remodel - complete with naked women in stained glass murals, gold-plated bathroom fixtures, etc.

One guy had his favorite mistress' face recreated in stone to line the door frame.

Only part of the mansion not adorned like a brothel in its ornateness was the kitchen -- cuz only the hired help went there.
