charter cities - journalist needs info ASAP
One of our local cities is voting tomorrow on whether to become a charter city, whatever that means. All I can find online seems to be hype from sources that I suspect are right wing (one site talking about"character cities"), others indicating these things are except from certain state and even national laws.

What are the down side of these? Need info ASAP!!!

Thanks.

1. Shouldn't a journalist want to know more than the downside?

2. A charter city is a city that runs by a charter that is, hopefully, voted on.
It supposedly allows the residents of the city to determine what sort of government they want to be governed under.

I'm pretty sure it's a way of trying out what works; the charter should be able to be nullified if it becomes too much of a burden on the residents or if it goes too far contrary to state or county law.

Or it can be codified if it works really well.

The thing you need to be worried about is what group is pushing the charter and what it says.
