We should forgive George W. Bush for all he's done --he was not convicted of anything
and is writing books and doing speaking engagements and doing something with his life.

time to move on and support him.

i mean, it's not like he's starting any wars now.

24. I will mark this day with your post in my calendar of remembrances,
'cuz even if you didn't really mean it, I think it's only a matter of time until he's warmly welcomed to the WH to get his special necklace.

Presidents seem to have real short memories about all bad, evil and outright illegal stuff presidents before them pulled on the Country, and especially stuff done to and in the name of "the American people."

*the American people = rubes

5. Bush was/is no doubt an idiot, but he only started one war.
The war in Afghanistan was started by Al Queda.

And now we have a CIC who is focused on getting us out by 2014. But there is still quite a bit that must be accomplished before it will be safe to leave.

from carrying out further attacks against the US.

20. We never needed any wars for that.
Edited on Wed Dec-22-10 10:10 PM by ThomCat
Who was it in the government that eventually admitted that Al Qaeda never numbered more than 100 individuals?

You don't need wars to stop 100 people. You notify all the police forces around the world, and send some appropriate bribes and bounty hunters to the places where the law enforcement isn't as reliable.

How many $millions have we spent per person so far, and how many more people have they recruited just because of the threat and chaos and damage of these wars?

Al Qaeda was an excuse. An excuse for rolling out massive political agendas here, for trying to seize control of oil and mineral rights in Afghanistan, and for massive political spending for a war Bush already wanted in Iraq. Only the propaganda has been about Al Qaeda. For Fucks Sake, how many times did we hear celebratory press conference announcements that we captured the same "#2 guy in Basra" Did he keep escaping? (For that matter, how many different times did we hear that "we just captured Basra?")

32. The petroleum and mineral discoveries were recent; they were not the reasons for the war.
Anyway, perhaps the war will turn out to be a good thing for Afghanistan. After the Taliban and Al Qaeda are neutralized, these untapped resources could mark the turning point in the reconstruction effort and expand economic opportunities for the people of Afghanistan.

And they would probably have never been discovered unless we had gone there.

44. We have been trying to get petrolium rights through
Afghanistan for over 50 years! Recent? What the hell are you talking about?

Only some of the minerals have been recently discovered. That doesn't mean all of them were recently discovered.

They were looking for more because they already knew the area was rich in minerals.

25. Sorry, I wasn't clear
I mean before 9/11, the bush administration kept the FBI and CIA from tracking down the future hijackers. They knew it was going to happen, it happened, and then bush started the invasion.

Did you know that?

26. Also refused to accept Saddam's surrender and exile
3 days before the start of the Iraqi war. Oh and 9/11 could have been avoided if the Bush administration had paid attention to Clarke and the PDB's and Joe Wilson. Instead they compromised a major anti-nuke CIA undercover operation to discredit Joe Wilson and to warn anyone else not to speak out against the war.

Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitcz, and Rice own both these wars, they own the 9/11 attack, and they will never wash the blood of innocent children off their hands.

31. The problem with your scenario is that Bin Laden did not attack a third party.
If those creeps had of truly wanted to avoid war, they would have surrendered him to the US. Afghanistan was being run by the Taliban, who approved of and played host to Bin Laden.

43. There is no problem with my scenario. That's what happened.
Bush wanted to invade Afghanistan to get war powers. He was much more interested in that than in bin Laden, whom he allowed to escape from Tora Bora.

40. The POINT is that just because you served your time
Edited on Thu Dec-23-10 09:18 AM by TZ
Doesn't stop one from loathing a person as a douchebag. When OJ gets out of jail, should we hail him as a hero again cause he did his time?
I kinda find it hard to forgive rapists, animal abusers, and people who kill people by driving drunk period. Michael Vick is entitled to work again yes, but he's not entitled to be "admired" because he's doing WHAT HES BEEN ORDERED BY THE COURTS TO DO. Is Ben Rothelisburger a hero cause he's refrained from raping anyone for almost 8 months now?
Vick apologists who DEMAND that I admire him as "courageous" are NO different from the Bush apologists who say his legacy is something to be appreciated. Sorry, both are dicks and I don't need anybody to tell me what I should or should NOT think.
Assholishness doesn't magically disappear because your time served is over.
There is a difference between forgiveness and simply celebrating people for NOT breaking the law. The priorities of whom one should admire in this country are warped indeed.

42. Nobody should be asking you to admire him.
or even forgive him. But it's important to accept justice when it's been served. Otherwise the steps of investigation, trial and conviction that you glossed over really are irrelevant.

I'm not standing up for Vick personally, as much as the principal that people should be able to have a livelihood after they serve their time. There are practical reasons for that, as well, that benefit society. It helps the prison system actually become a place for reform. It reduces recidivism. It'll help end the cycle of prison & poverty that's prevalent in the Black community.
