Millionaire stole student's credit card to buy pizza, say Mich. cops
(CBS/WTSP) POLK COUNTY, Fla. - Apparently a Michigan dentist who could easily afford a couple of slices preferred his pizza "with everything."
Richard Ludwig, who bragged his net worth was up to $4 million, was arrested late Saturday on a host of charges by Florida police who say he stole a college student's credit card and used it to buy pizza.

The 54-year-old Ludwig, of Okemos Mich., was arrested on credit-card theft, forgery and impersonating and attempting to use the ID of another person without consent, reported CBS affiliate WTSP. Ludwig was in Polk County, Fla. for his son's baseball tournament.

The alleged victim, Harrun Majeed, a military veteran and college student, dropped his credit card in the parking lot of a Publix supermarket. Majeed canceled the card when he got home after realizing he lost it, reported the station.

The representative on the phone told Majeed that someone had used the card to buy pizza in the same plaza where he lost the card. He then proceeded to call the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
The police went to the restaurant and found Lewis waiting for two large pizzas with extra olives. Police say Ludwig had $250 in cash in his pocket, but used Majeed's card to pay the $40.64 bill.

6. That brings up a great point.
If the perpetrator hadn't been caught then the small business owner or the credit card comp. (which is all of us after it's all said and done with tax write-offs and whatever)would've been stuck with the bill. Probably both.

7. in my experience (just my own experience), most of the rich people i've
known have been weird about money.

cheap & mean in piddly, odd ways (like paying for pizzas with stolen credit) while prone to making occasional grandiose & expensive gestures.

just to keep you off-balance, i guess.

8. What a sad example of a brutal truth...

Your Honesty and Integrity never really matters to anyone else besides yourself.

If the rich bastard hadn't been caught, he would've left with a full stomach and the poor student might have to starve for a meal or two to pay off the bill. I never ate breakfast while I was a graduate student in NY. I know the value of 40 fucking dollars while being a student.

Sometimes, I just lose hope in humanity.

10. Maybe his net worth IS $4million - with a - in front of the number!
The guy who wrote me $5000 in bad checks swore he was worth a bundle and even had the DA's office convinced he would make good on the over $75,000 worth of bad checks he had written. I was the one who found out he had declared bankruptcy in Canada and was under a judge's order not to leave his jurisdiction "with the shirt on his back." It turned out the figures he was using for his net worth were negative numbers.

14. I can only hope that Harrun Majeed
will get quite a bit of Mr. Ludwig's $4 million dollars after Mr Ludwig loses his dental license and spends some time in jail.

15. I am a Baaad Person

I think it is great that the student and the police were able to act so fast they caught the guy in the pizza place waiting for his order. I must be a baaad person for enjoying hearing that a rich guy lost for a change. :)

16. I don't know what's worse; Ludwig or the repug scumbags commenting on this story
on AOL: http://www.aolnews.com/discuss/2011/03/08/cops-millionaire-dentist-richard-lewis-ludwig-buys-40-in-pizza#gcpDiscussPageUrlAnchor

"He must be a Dem because he feels entitled to help himself to other peoples money" (Unlike your GOP pals on Wall Street who helped themselves to 14.4 TRILLION dollars in taxpayer money)?

"I live down the street from him. He's a Dem , even had an Obammy sign" :eyes: sure you do.

Then of course there's all kinds of racist BS. :puke:

17. I wonder if this might cost Richard Ludwig more than $40.64.
Edited on Tue Mar-08-11 11:18 PM by LiberalAndProud
I suppose if he were my dentist I'd be looking elsewhere for dental care. I tend to avoid being on the paying end of transactions with thieves and liars.

On edit: Could he really lose his dental license?
