17-year-old Idaho student takes down Ed deform Superintendent Tom Luna (Idaho)
Edited on Tue Mar-08-11 04:43 AM by Hannah Bell
Luna had called for increases in class sizes at all grade levels and an increase in online learning, while dismissing 770 teachers, and moving toward a value-added merit pay scheme for teachers. The new legislation will also eliminate tenure for new teachers and force all new hires into one- to two-year contracts. Collective bargaining would be limited to only issues of salaries and benefits.

17-year-old speechifys against Luna & his education plans here:

The kid has a future in politics.

Also, he mentions JR Simplot -- the Idaho potato family -- who have apparently joined the rest of their billionaire philanthropist brethren in investing in online education, school deform, and union-busting.

JR Simplot, the deceased (2008) founder of the company, was the father-in-law of the current governor of Idaho.

It's my impression that idaho is something of a simplot fiefdom.

1. Luna's actually the Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Butch Otter is the governor.

But the rest of your point is taken. Idaho is beholden to Simplot interests...

A constant reminder of the medieval fiefdom they are trying to turn our country into.
