2 sexual assaults and...

The emergency room saw 165 patients on Saturday and 138 on Sunday, Quigley said.

"We had several assault victims, and we had a number of people who had lumps, bumps, and lacerations," she said.

There were also several fights in the emergency room and instances of people urinating in the waiting room and outside the building, she added.

1. Why did they hold the parade so early? St. Paddy's is the 17th.

6. So not to conflict with the NYC parade
There were dozens of St Patrick Day parades this past weekend because a lot of the people involved in them are also involved in the NYC parade.

3. Having worked in NYC for 14 years
I can attest that this is not new or just Hoboken.

Dreaded March 17th. Worse day of the year for drinking, :puke: and in general making a disgusting mess.

Glad to be out of the 'rat race', yes the rats won.

8. I've seen more vomit on sidewalks and staircases lately
Than any time recently. I guess people need something to do. How about this one: 6:36pm: 4th & Garden – drunk tries breaking into Ambulance “he’s in bad shape”

lol

12. Sign of the times, when the economy takes a hit
drinking goes up. Good times.. drinking goes up. We're a bunch of self medicated babies, either we cry in our beer or we're making toasts to our good fortune.

10. When I was a bartender, it was by far the worst day of the year, too.
Nothing more disgusting than a bunch of wannabes and amateurs with green teeth puking green beer everywhere, all the while wearing 'Kiss me I'm Irish' crap. Woo. Hoo.

14. I live near the end of most of the parades...
in NYC. The season starts with the drunken Irish and ends (pretty much) with the drunken Germans (who are better behaved and extremely neat). Cops hanging out of 2nd story windows drunk can be a bit scary. The Puerto Rican parade is by far the messiest but they don't really drink in my neighborhood. The Greek parade makes the most mess out of traffic, simply because of the street on which it ends.
I'll point out that I'm not dissing any of the parade participants themselves, who uniformly conduct themselves well over a long day of assembling and marching, whatever the weather. Most of the spectators are well behaved, too.
Perhaps this year I'll be less grumpy about the whole thing and take my smaller camera out and do street shots.

19. I used to live on 29th btwn
5ht and Madison, and I HATED the parades. They were a disaster. I'm Irish, and I avoid St. Patrick's Day like the plague. Parade Day does NOT make me proud to be Irish.

But then I'm not much of a drinker.

15. I've always thought that the contrast between how Ireland and the US celebrate St. Patrick's Day
Was startling. Over here, it is an excuse for parades and getting so drunk on green beer that you puke. Big time party. Over in Ireland, it is a somber religious holiday. The differences are interesting, and say a lot about different cultures and history.

16. The most entertaining aspect of the NYC parade
is seeing totally plastered 16-year olds on the subway at 11 AM.

Kids are great.
