A former GOP aide to Senate Republicans: You can beat Walker
From a letter to Isthmus:

As a former Republican aide in the Wisconsin State Senate, part of my job was to help read the governor, and advise my senator accordingly. If I were still advising a Republican state senator, this is what I’d say right now.

DO SOMETHING.

This governor is not hard to read. He’s a giant fiery ball of ambition. When he sneezes he compares it to how Reagan sneezed. His first major act, after netting a modest 52 percent in a GOP wave election, was to pick the most dangerous and inflammatory political fight he could think of. His next major act was to propose a budget that might get him re-elected in Texas, but not Wisconsin. Why?

Clearly he doesn’t care about getting re-elected in Wisconsin. He doesn’t care about protests, or poll numbers, or recalls. He barely even cares if what he’s proposing passes. So long as he gets attention for proposing it.

Scott Walker is driving a fast bus to Washington, estimated time of arrival 2012. Fourteen of his Senate passengers jumped off and hid the moment they knew what was happening. The other 19 might want to wake up before their own districts disappear in the rear-view.

4. "he doesn’t care about getting re-elected in Wisconsin" my guess is he'll pull a palin
if he gets this bill through. Then when it's overturned, he can claim it's not his fault. He probably thinks he'll be grossly rewarded by the Kochs but they're just using him.

5. Walker is a Baptist too.
Randi Rhodes ranted yesterday about how Walker is a devout born again Baptist and is doing such evil things. Here's a blog by Thom Hartmann today about those evils.

Have Republicans made a Faustian bargain with the rich and don't know how to get out of it?
Submitted by louisehartmann on 8. March 2011 - 10:01

Who’s screwed? America's children. There are 16 million children living in poverty right now – and if trends continue – a quarter of all the kids in our nation will be living poverty. There haven’t been numbers this troubling since the Great Depression. And what do Republicans want to do?? Cut services to low-income children. Programs in the Republicans crosshairs include the Head Start programs, the Child nutrition assistance program, and an array of other education, healthcare, and support programs for disadvantaged children. So in a time of unprecedented child poverty – Republicans cut programs aimed at preventing child poverty. Just like last year in a time of historically high unemployment – Republicans wanted to cut off unemployment insurance. Just like when facing an all time high of uninsured Americans – 50 million – Republicans wanted to repeal health reform. Just like on the heels of a financial crisis – Republicans wanted to stop Wall Street reform legislation. Just like in response to the environmental catastrophe of the BP oil spill – Republicans wanted to kill alternative energy legislation and keep giving the oil industry $3 billion a year in welfare payments. And finally – just like at a time of record high budget deficits – Republican lapdogs wanted to give their millionaires and billionaire buddies a tax cut that could have paid for all the services I just described. Are these guys REALLY that tone-deaf…or have they made a Faustian bargain with the rich and don't know how to get out of it?

7. Trouble is that Republicans would vote for a dirty sock if it gets the nom
But I think Walker wouldn't make it through the primary, though. His own would knock the snot out of him.

13. I'll second that
To this point, Senate Republicans have gotten a free ride. Walker is the face of this demagoguery, and it's been up to the 14 Senate Democrats to stand in his way. Senate Republicans haven't had to lift a finger to either aid or oppose Walker, and nobody seems to be holding them accountable for this mess. Sen. Jauch (D) released a statement earlier today saying that he knew of six or seven Senate Republicans who thought the attack on collective bargaining was going too far. Who are these cowards? Why are they hiding? If they truly don't support Walker's punitive proposal, why aren't they getting out there with their message? The yellow streak down their backs must be a mile wide.

14. Can Walker seriously believe he has a shot at the national ticket in 2012?
The author of the linked article points out, correctly, that it wouldn't be the first time that the GOP candidate for Vice President was a right-wing extremist with half a term as Governor and no other credentials. BUT that little venture didn't work out all that well for McCain. Is Romney or Barbour or Gingrich or whoever likely to try it again?

I was assuming that Walker didn't have any carefully thought out plan for 2012 or even for next week -- that he's just demanding what he wants, now, without any particular regard for the consequences.
