Boston area DUers: Can you spread this missing person report?
http://lostnmissing.posterous.com/urgent-missing-boston-newton-ma-david-mark-24

David Mark, 24 MISSING 3/2/2011

The family of David Mark, 24, desperately asks the public to please help look for their missing son. David is a diabetic and is in need of his insulin and has been missing since March 02, 2011. He is from Albany, NY and traveled to Massachusetts , after breakfast and the family assumes he may have just left to go and visit his sister who resides in Newton, Ma. His vehicle was found abandoned with a cell phone inside that does not belong to Mark. His vehicle was found in front of a school in Newton, MA only blocks from his sister’s home. However, nobody has seen or heard from him. Three car doors were unlocked and the driver’s door was locked. David had about $40 cash in his wallet, and his debt card has not been used since he left Albany. It is not known if he may have become ill and disoriented and could be wandering the streets or in shelters. The hospitals have been checked, however, the possibility always exists that he may have been admitted under a misspelled name or if he has exhibited cognitive difficulties, he may have given an incorrect name.

We ask that all nursing staff of Boston Hospitals to please look carefully at David’s photographs and if you have any information to immediately contact the Newton Police Department, or 911 immediately.

David also has Asperger’s Syndrome, a spectrum of autism, and may avoid eye contact and is not going to initiate conversations. He is very familiar with Boston and might be using the MBTA, particularly the Green Line. David is highly intelligent and has many interests and is fond of coffee shops, museums, libraries and sporting events. Any one of these venues holds possibilities that he may be “attracted” towards them. Keep in mind it is with urgency that David be located so that he may have his insulin administered by medical personnel. He does not have enough insulin with him. If his blood sugar is elevated he may have severe cognitive difficulties and could fall into a diabetic coma. He also wears contact lenses and if left in too long may give his eyes a bloodshot look. He has a "twitch" in his eye and also walks rather "stiffly." He could appear to be disheveled and those who pass by may believe he is a homeless person. He has studied and has a strong interest in Latin and in Spanish. PLEASE help look for him. If you have any information, recall seeing him, or if you may have given him a ride somewhere…PLEASE contact authorities as soon as possible. Please help get information to all your friends, families and co-workers in Massachusetts and surrounding states of New England.

1. I live in Newton
Can you private message with any more info, such as where his car was found (Newton's a pretty big city, something like 20 public schools), anything else? I also have experience with Aspereger's so I know what to look for. I'll also get word out to some local groups.

Newton's a super-safe city, but Boston not so much.

5. From a news report -
"His vehicle was located a 10 Middlesex Road, which is walking distant to his sister's home."

6. Insulin dependent and missing since the 2nd? Dear God (I'm a lifetime
Edited on Tue Mar-08-11 03:37 PM by blondeatlast
insulin dependent diabetic). I suspect, like me, that he had insulin on him since he went missing (and I sincerely hope he is on a pump), but so much can so easily go wrong; stress can wreak havoc on diabetes control.

Nowhere near Boston, but a kick of real concern and empathy.

EDIT: Oh, dear, that report says he did not have his insulin--not good. ;(

15. Thanks. Since you are in the area, would you mind posting any info on cause of death
when it is announced?

Thanks in advance. This story strikes close to home for me (see upthread).

16. Tragic. I've been hearing about an artificial pancreas (smart CGM + a pump + control) for years now
Edited on Wed Mar-09-11 10:56 AM by entanglement
but it doesn't seem like they're anywhere near getting it to market. With automation, there would be a smaller risk of someone having a hypo or DKA-level highs. Even if their sugar levels did overshoot accepted bounds, it would be for a brief period, so you'd completely eliminate the ever present risk of injury due to impaired decision making.

Even a regular pump might have helped in this case.

:(

17. I've been curious to know if he had one. Some people actually do better with injections
so he might not have. MY pump has improved my quality of life immeasurably, though.

18. Thank you for passing on the news. I knew it was a long shot
when I saw how long he'd been missing, but I knew people here would keep an eye out if they knew he was missing.
