2. And then there are Enchanted Dolls....
Edited on Tue Mar-08-11 04:23 PM by MineralMan
Now, these are not for children, since they cost big bucks, but those kids dolls are nothing in comparison

http://www.enchanteddoll.com/

They're anatomically correct, about 13.5" tall, and completely poseable. Very expensive. Here's one that's safe for work:

3. Our 19 yr. old daughter collects Living Dead and Monster High dolls.
She watches the videos on youtube, don't know where else you can see them. I didn't think they were being marketed to very young children.

5. Also, I disagree with this statement...
“Girls don’t naturally want to be sexy — they want to be girls,”

But girls DO like to play dress-up, so where is the line drawn? I have worn high heels, makeup, fake eyelashes, etc. when going out with my husband. How is this wrong? It seems to me that the "blame it on the outfit" bandwagon is at it again.

BTW, our girls are now 14 and 19 and they enjoy all the girly things that are out there but with their own style.

8. i just found an interesting blog entry
In 1963 an apparel collection, "Barbie Baby-Sits" was launched. The outfit came with accessories, one of which was a book titled, "How to Lose Weight". The book's advice... "Don't eat". This same book accessory was featured in 1965 in the apparel collection, "Slumber Party" complete with pink bathroom scale set permanently at 110 lbs. Barbie's real-life dimensions are far from realistic. Here’s some keepin' it real Barbie facts...
If Barbie was an actual woman her measurements would be completely unattainable.

At 5'9" her bust would measure 39", her waist would be a virtually non-existent 18", and her hip measurement would come in at 33".
She would wear a size 3 shoe.
Barbie views herself as a 'full-figured' woman at a weight of 110 lbs. In reality, at 110 lbs. Barbie is 35 lbs. underweight according to her height which puts her health in a precarious state.
Barbie would register a mere 16.24 BMI which would easily fit the criteria to classify her as anorexic. Menstruation would be nothing more than a faint memory for Barbie. Her body could simply not support natural hormonal cycles.
Barbie's proportions are so unrealistic that as a real-life woman she'd have to walk on all fours like a dog. She wouldn't be able to stand on her own two feet.

11. Three words: The Nag Factor
Either Google it or watch The Corporation on DVD ("Basic Training" chapter). It'll blow your mind how much kids are programmed to "want" so many things.

14. Heh! Sorry, but Tinker Bell has always dressed like a tart.
She doesn't look any different from the 1953 version. If anything, the newer characters are dressed more conservatively than she ever has.
