3. Loving her "It's Not About the Budget" scathingly detailed review
of what this new crop of Republican governors are trying to force upon the people of those states.

They have all given giant tax breaks to businesses and propose draconian cuts on those in most pain already to pay for those perks for their wealthy campaign donors.

20. I was shocked to hear about this, too, but found out part of it has been in effect since 1990.
Public Act 72 of 1990. Explanation on the state's website here:

http://www.michigan.gov/treasury/0,1607,7-121-1751_51556-198770--,00.html

But the Republicans are trying to expand the powers the emergency financial manager has.

This article gives some of the details

http://www.thenewsherald.com/articles/2011/03/08/news/doc4d76a7b8aaab3843184488.txt?viewmode=fullstory

This is what the original act said about collective bargaining:

While emergency financial managers are authorized to renegotiate labor contracts, they are not authorized to abrogate such contracts, or other obligations. Therefore, the Act 72 process offers no safe harbor to units of local government seeking to avoid improvidently entered into obligations.

And according to the newspaper article:

The new bills would have some changes in the emergency financial manager position.

The bills would give the manager the authority to authorize the following changes: to reject, modify, or terminate the terms of an existing contract or a collective bargaining agreement; and to order millage elections.

That news story says that the cities of Ecorse, Pontiac, and Benton Harbor, and the Detroit Public Schools, already have emergency financial managers, who will be given much broader powers. Including terminating labor contracts.

For the record, I hate you sacrosanct, arrogant, I'm-better-than-you-cable-news-watchin' clowns.

I think most of us here would be grateful if you'd keep that kind of condescending opinion to yourself. More to the point: why bother to post in this thread?

31. Thanks for the insults but I do believe I'm entitled to an opinion and to answer your question...
The tipping point for MSNBC partisan slant was last week when Rachel started talking about the proposed legislation in texas that would increase penalties to companies that hired undocumented workers but not individuals. Although the person who introduced this legislation may have done some things in the past that I don't agree with, I do think that the legislation was extremely reasonable and would be highly supported by democrats if it was introduced by a democrat instead of a republican.

When something makes good sense to implement but the talking heads are against it simply because someone from the other side proposed it, that's telling the audience what to think.
And I don't like to be told what to think.

And it also stands in the way of getting anything done.

I haven't stopped watching or reading NEWS. But I have quit watching the infortainment channels of CNN, MSNBC and FOX. Although I may occassionally tune in to shepard smith because he actually covers news. The amount of tv commercials tend to be a bit overwhelming though.

CNN is horrible. Absolutely horrible. John Stewart points this out on a regular basis and they fail to improve. Headline News is even worse because it teases you into thinking there's actually going to be headlines when instead it's a bunch of opinion bullshite.

Fox is highly slanted and rightwing propaganda. Except for the 7 oclock eastern hour. When somehow they manage to keep opinion of it.

MSNBC doesn't actually cover any news after 3 or 4 pm. I'm not really sure now because I haven't watched Martin Bashir since he started at 3 but I'm assuming he's not reading headlines. After that it's all a repeating cycle of Rushballs said this and Michelle Bachman said that and glen beck did this and sarah palin did that. If I gave one ounce of shit about what those people had to say, I'd watch them on the network that they originally aired on. Just calling them psyhos isn't news and I won't learn anything from it that I didn't already know.

In other words, watching them is a waste of time and an insult to my intelligence. The amount of airtime spend on commercials, especially sleazy ones for oil companies, bankers and class action lawyers, is, quite frankly, offensive and is counter what MSNBC would seem to advocate between the hours of 4pm and 10pm.

The last two weeks they didn't do anything to deserve my viewership.

They didn't cover the WIS demonstrations or libya in any appreciable amount. The only they they covered was The Oscars (which belongs on E! not on the news), Charlie Sheen which also belongs on E!, and they covered the coodies breakout at the playboy slut farm.

That's not news. That's bullshit.

P.O.W.E.R. walk!
Wisconsinites to walk from Milwaukee to Madison to support workers

Milwaukee, Wis. (March 7, 2011) – People Organizing Wisconsin for Education and workers’ Rights (P.O.W.E.R.) are Wisconsinites who support public education and collective bargaining rights for all workers. We are planning to walk from Milwaukee to Madison to show our opposition to Governor Scott Walker’s union-busting and anti-education budget proposals. The walk will begin on Friday March 11th at 6.a.m at Riverside University High School in Milwaukee.

P.O.W.E.R. is inspired by the ideals of “Fighting Bob” La Follette and rooted in the “Wisconsin Idea.” The century-old “Wisconsin Idea” promotes equality by:

• Building our collective economy
• Advancing healthcare and medicine
• Educating young and old and
• Enhancing quality of life for all.

Walk Details

The walk will begin at 6 a.m. at Riverside University High School (1615 E. Locust Street) in Milwaukee. The walk will be divided into three shifts:

1. Friday from Milwaukee to Concord (estimated hours: 13)
2. Saturday from Concord to Deerfield (estimated hours: 9)
3. Sunday from Deerfield to the Capitol building in Madison (estimated hours: 6)

For information about the route and other details, visit our Web site: http://powerwisconsin.wordpress.com/. We are also on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/POWER/150642121663170

21. Except that she's missed a few opportunities with Steele just now
For one - When he said the Wisconsin Dems were wimps for leaving the state she could have told Steele that this means the Republicans in the U.S. Senate were wimps for filibustering more than any Senate in the nation's history.

She could be owning him. Instead, she's going all best friends on him. Meh. Clicking over to a movie for the duration.

But I'm completely over her and her Steele-crush. I'd prefer she reel Steele in for the smackdown on her own time over drinks perhaps. The tv show is only for the hammering which he and his entire dumbass Party richly deserves.

22. Best . Rachel . Ever . !
She's the first to expose the Michigan fight.

Same as the Wisconsin fight.

Except Snyder plans a much quicker death for unions than Assclown Walker.

The instrument of death? Emergency Financial Managers.

Fast, sneaky, and ... the unions die one at a time.

No single, big, bloody massacre with a ton of media coverage.

Lotsa small ones instead, attracting little attention.

Thank you, Rachel!
