Al Jazeera reports that three of Gaddafi’s private planes have taken off from a military air strip in Tripoli in three different directions. ”One is suggested to be Vienna, the other is supposed to be Athens in Greece, and the other is Cairo, Egypt,” Maltan journalist Stango-Navarra said.

Radio scanner FMC Netherlands added the following:

“Libyan Government 5A-DCN is the well known Falcon DA-900 heading to Cairo”

“Libyan Government 5A-UAC is a BD-700 / Bombardier BD-700-1A11 Global 5000 heading to Athena”

“Libyan Government 5A-UAA is a CL-300 / Bombardier BD-100-1A10 Challenger 300 heading to Vienna”

FMCNL later said the destinations of the airplanes are not confirmed.

One possible reason for the plane to Cairo could be to negotiate about the upcoming Arab League meeting, to which Libya is not invited, the Al Jazeera correspondent says.

AFP and Reuters report that an airport official has confirmed the landing of the plane in Cairo. The official told The Associated Press that the head of Libya’s logistics and supply authority arrived on a private jet Wednesday afternoon. Libyan embassy staff told Egyptian officials that Major Gen Abdul-Rahman bin Ali al-Saiid al-Zawi was carrying a message from Gaddafi.

Cairo: A high-ranking member of the Libyan government landed in Cairo on Wednesday and embassy staff told Egyptian officials that he was carrying a message from embattled leader Moammar Gaddafi.

"Such a situation would be useful," Gaddafi said. "The Libyan people would understand their real aims to take Libya under their control, to take their freedoms and to take their oil and all Libyan people will take up arms and fight."

Hours later, Major General Abdul-Rahman bin Ali al-Saiid al-Zawi, the head of Libya's logistics and supply authority, arrived on a private jet, according to an Egyptian airport official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media.

(Reuters) - Rebels staged periodic hit-and-run attacks on dug-in forces loyal to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in the east of the country on Wednesday and resupplied their front line with guns and ammunition.

A warplane circled a rebel checkpoint at the main gate to the rebel-held oil town of Ras Lanuf which has sustained repeated air strikes in the past days.

There were six anti-aircraft guns, two mortar launchers and boxes of ammunition at the gate waiting to go forward. One fighter was carefully assembling home-made bombs with small fuses and tins of TNT explosive.

"We're in a defensive position right now because of the heavy artillery ahead. We moved forward another five km (three miles)," rebel Colonel Masoud Mohammed.

KUWAIT, March 9 (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti National Assembly (parliament) called here Wednesday on Arab countries to rescind their recognition of the incumbent regime of Libya, but hailed the "Libyan revolution".

Kuwaiti members of parliament also called on Arab governments to recognize the opposition National Council as a legitimate representative of the Libyan people.

"The Kuwaiti National Assembly lauds the revolution of the Libyan people and their pursuit of freedom and sovereignty, and mourns the death of Libyan people on the hands of gangs, security forces and mercenaries," the assembly's secretary general Allam Al-Kandari said in a release.

"It (the assembly) also calls for a withdrawal of official Arab recognition of the 'regime of killing and annihilation' in Tripoli, and recognition of National Council as a legitimate representative of the Libyan People instead," he said.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Wednesday his appointment of Maj. Gen. (res.) Ya'akov Amidror as his new national security adviser.

The new national security adviser caused controversy last year after he told a conference that soldiers should kill anyone who gets in the way of completing their mission - and that soldiers who refuse to attack should be shot, too.
