6. Kasich's pick for the head of the Ohio Department of Corrections ......
Edited on Wed Mar-09-11 01:49 PM by Botany
.... just happens to be an executive for the Corrections Corporation of America do you
want to take a guess what company will get the bid to run the newly privatized prisons?

LET THE LOOTING START

Kasich picks new Ohio prisons chief

http://www.vindy.com/news/2011/jan/04/kasich-picks-new-ohio-prison-chief/

COLUMBUS (AP) — Gov.-elect John Kasich has named an executive at a private prison management company and former warden as the state’s next
corrections director.

At an event today in Chillicothe, Kasich announced Gary Mohr as his pick to head the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. A 36-year
veteran of the corrections industry, Mohr served previously as assistant state prisons director and superintendent of youth prisons. He was warden
of Chillicothe Correctional Institution, Ross Correctional Institution, and the Corrections Reception Center.

Mohr is a managing director at the Corrections Corporation of America, which designs, builds, manages and operates federal, state and local prisons
across the country. He succeeds prisons director Ernie Moore.

7. I also noticed "Ohio prisons spokesman Carlo LoParo"-Blackwell's side kick.
Someone will grossly profit, taxpayers will be fleeced and prisoners will suffer. Assholes.

Edited on Wed Mar-09-11 02:31 PM by Botany
John Kasich is a smart Scott Walker. This has nothing to do w/ balancing the state budget because
private for profit have a higher recidivism rate (inmates returning to prison after being released) then
publicly run ones. State parks, natural resources, and the Ohio Turnpike are all in line for Kasich's
Wall Street buddies to come on in and scoop up for pennies on the dollar.

16. Get rid of the correction workers-watch the police are next.
Corrections workers will be offered slightly above minimum wage w few benefits under the next owner. My guess Xe is chomping at the bit in hopes we get rid of those pesky police who no longer support these assholes.

Serco - The most dangerous corporation you’ve never heard of
http://buddyhell.wordpress.com/2011/03/03/serco-the-most-dangerous-corporation-youve-never-heard-of/ (short 2 minute video too)

Serco are responsible for controlling & maintaining many dodgy things for the governments of -
Australia,
America,
the U.K,
Canada,
Ireland & the united Arab emirates.

their staff is 85% comprised of Ex-Public Servants (government)
They own the contract to set Greenwich mean time,
and practically everything else you wouldn't want dodgy people to have power over.
They are present in the military industrial and prison industrial complexes of most of the countries listed above, and that is never a good combo either.

Edited on Wed Mar-09-11 02:28 PM by stockholmer
just like the banksters x(

capitalism's innate drive is to never-ever ending expansion, and it systematically seeks to commoditize all possible routes to potential profit centers

not only will they try to privatize the receptacles of judicial punishment (ie prison system), but they also force through new draconian laws to create built-in feeder streams to keep their private gulags full

21. in the US, yes, but globally many so-called left-leaning parties sell out too
if they get certain deals that satisfy them at utilitarian levels.

DINO, I assume, equals Democrat In Name Only, btw

To my outsider's (I did live in the US for several years) eyes, given the continuity of agenda that takes place in US policy whether it is Republicans or Democrats in power (NAFTA, wars of empire, tax breaks for the usurper class of uber-rich, lack of prosecution of corrupt banking cartels, failure to enact universal heath care, failed war on drugs, expansion of military budget, support of police state's ever increasing grip, etc) it would appear that the majority of Democrats are, at the core decision/voting level, DINO's.

18. More American Legislative Exchange Council mischief. Kasich's a longtime member.
ALEC basically has a cozy setup that lets corporations make tax-free donations (it's supposedly a charity) and write "model legislation" for its thousands of members who are conservative legislators.

Same thing happened in Arizona:

http://tucsoncitizen.com/cell-out-arizona/category/american-legislative-exchange-council-alec/

Kasich's pick to head the Ohio Department of Corrections is from the Corrections Corporation of America, which is mentioned in that article about what happened in Arizona.

This is the general topic I posted on what ALEC is up to:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x591230

The quote from Wikipedia in the OP there mentions Kasich's involvement with ALEC since its formative years.

I tried to get to the model legislation for prisons on the ALEC website, but although I can get as far as this page

http://www.alec.org/AM/Template.cfm?Section=PublicSafetyandElectionsModelLegislation

the actual model legislation is available only to ALEC members. I suppose access is restricted to keep more people from being aware just how many bills in this rightwing legislative blitz are in fact from ALEC, part of their agenda and written by the corporations that will profit.
