AARP sues Obama Administration over reverse mortgage policy change
The largest advocacy group for U.S. seniors sued the Obama administration on Tuesday over policy changes it says make it easier for older Americans to lose their home to foreclosure.

AARP, formerly known as the American Association of Retired Persons, sued Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan in federal district court through its charitable arm, the AARP Foundation, on behalf of three homeowners facing foreclosure and then eviction.

"HUD changed the rules in the middle of the game without following federal law and told people they had to pay far more than they were promised," said Jean Constantine-Davis, a senior attorney at the AARP Foundation...

"HUD has basically ignored the protections guaranteed for spouses of borrowers as well as the borrowers themselves," Constantine-Davis said. A stranger, perversely, could purchase the home that was worth less than the loan amount for market value and the FHA insurance fund would kick in the difference.

2. To be more exact, AARP is suing HUD. Reverse mortgages have been around for awhile.

3. Why didn't you note that this was a Bush-era change?
It went through in 2008.

I know it doesn't sqaure with the anti-Obama theme around herer, but still.

7. Your post is VERY disingenuous. You try really hard to blame Obama for a rule
that came from the Bush Administration. Good luck trying to change a law when you only have a 59 member minority in the Senate.

8. Your answer is callous and partisan.
I happened to view your post as I was reading in printer-friendly format and took you off ignore enough to answer you: I don't give a shit who is getting the "blame", I want these draconian policies that hurt people to stop. YOU are the one in partisan mode who only "blames" the other party, even if the hurt is continuing under our rule.

So go away again.

10. And your response to me reeks of cowardice. Maybe someone you do not have on ignore can forward
this to you...

If your issue is that Obama, in this case, is continuing a Bush policy, then why don't you just say that. But you imply in your OP that Obama wrote the law/policy. Why can't we discuss the policy and why the Obama administration is not working to rescind the Bush policy. Or is that asking too much.

According to the article, the Obama administration has not even commented on this lawsuit.

BTW, I did not alert on the deleted post.

6. Un-recced for MISLEADING POST...
"The lawsuit alleges that the Bush administration in late 2008 changed HUD practices"
