...by ceasing work, seizing plants, blocking roads, etc.?

We're not there yet.

Are we?

1. We are definitely in interesting times
This overreach in Wisconsin should stir all of the unions NATIONWIDE.

We'll see where it goes from there...

2. They're certainly not there in my part of the country.
The shopping malls and restaurants seem to be as busy as ever, and unemployment is slowly improving.

I know there are millions more who are suffering, though.

7. There will definitely be the "it can't happen to us/I'll always be comfortable" responses, true

Hence the question: When will people realize the fix is actually in?

And it will be up to actual them to "unfix it" -- so to speak.

9. I'll tell you when!
Edited on Wed Mar-09-11 08:01 PM by kenny blankenship
when they witness a Presidential election being stolen!
when they discover they are led into a war based on lies!
when the most respected and influential financial institutions in the country are suddenly found to be bankrupt boiler room operations and run by crooks!
when they lose their jobs to slave labor on the other side of the world financed by Wall St., London and Zurich!
when they have their houses snatched out from under them
when the wars they voted to end, just go on and on, to keep military contractors flush with profits!
when the Party of the Average Working Stiff sells them out to banksters and insurance mafiosi!

well...whenever they get around to it. But Real Soon Now. Rest assured. Oh, it's coming, have no doubt. Oh there will be a reckoning and a settling of scores and many people that day will wish they had stayed in bed and watched cartoons!

10. We should demand that Dem states pass a card check law.
We could rebuild the union movement in other states to off set the losses in Repuke states.

Please don't anyone agree that public workers like me should lose our rights and salaries. We have the power as long as we have our union. Bust our union and you will never have the chance to organize. This protest was started by union members and will continue with union members. We support the right of everyone to join a union.

12. I am surprised it has taken..
this long to get to this point. Many don't pay attention until it effects there paycheck. I think that many of them still don't get that they are really, really trying to kill us.

I know damn well they have seen what has been going on within their own families well before now. They have lost homes and jobs and they vote republCON just because a black man is President..

18. That's the key.
Enough have to go out that if they fire them then there's no way they can replace them. Other private sector unions could go out in sympathy.

20. WV does not have collective bargaining
Strikes are forbidden.

In 1990 like 80 or 90% of the teachers went out on an illegal strike.

They won a $5000 raise but they had to put it on the line and all do it for it to work.

Now the pay of WV teachers is 46th in the nation. WV public employees in general are 49th.

So it worked for them.

17. Yes, we are... the echoes of history grow impossible to ignore
http://www.fourthturning.com/

Now the Fourth Turning is loosely based on Arnold Toynbee's work which is LONG and at times HARD to follow... even in the often found abridged, two volume, versionn

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arnold_J._Toynbee

History does have cycles... and the fire has just started. We are at the crisis point. All that has come before was just the preparation for it. These people are seriously talking pitchforks and general strike. I have not heard either, outside DU, in my life time, in the US. The right has just majorly miscalculated.

(OF course there are echoes that go a long time into the past, see cheap labor and master-servant relationship... but that is the even harder to get at times Annale's school... ) but to your question... we are there.

Oh and it goes with out saying... this will be a hot summer...

22. We'll see how the working class responds.
It certainly won't be affected by the highbrow libs on here protesting "no violence" "no violence".

Guess what - when you have nothing left to lose it's not going to be pretty.
