http://www.duluthnewstribune.com/event/article/id/193442/Sen. Bob Jauch said tonight “anybody who cares about democracy should be disappointed” in the Republican move to restrict state employee collective bargaining rights even though Democratic senators prevented them from seating a quorum in the state Senate.
The Senate requires a quorum to take up any measures that spend money. But Republicans separated the proposal to curtail union rights, which spends no money, and a special conference committee of state lawmakers approved the bill a short time later.
“They got tired of democracy and decided to ram this down the public’s throat, even though the public didn’t want it,” said Jauch, Poplar. “It was passed without any debate, any justification for the quick actions. This is a public lynching on the senate floor.”Jauch said he thinks Republicans have ignited public anger that will lead to consequences in the next election.
