ERA Congressional Bill Breakthru!
ERA Congressional Bill Breakthru!

TODAY is INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY.

A most appropriate day to celebrate the progress of the ERA by

filing an ERA Resolution by Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin, doncha' think? This is the ANNOUNCEMENT we promised you OF OUR UNIQUE, NEW ERA BILL NOW BEFORE CONGRESS !

By a little after 6 pm today, March 8, 2011, a bill to remove the wrongly interpreted time limit from the Proposing Clause to the original Equal Rights Amendment will be filed in the Congressional hopper by Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin. We have been working closely with her for more than two years.

THE TIMING OF THIS IS A GIFT to all of us as workers' rights are taking center stage. We all need to stand together. Now is THE TIME.

CELEBRATE this moment as one more step closer to gender-equality in America! ERA Congressional Resolution will have a number and will have a momentous number of Original Co-Sponsors including Congresspeople Debbie Wasserman Schultz; Chellie Pingree (Maine); Jean Spier; and possibly Florida's Ted Deutch, Frederica Wilson, and iffy, Bill Young (R), my own Congressman with whom I've been working for the past 9 months on this! I have actually been working with the others non-stop since last year. ALL of us in United for Equality consortium have been working endlessly, too; some of them like me in their own ratifying states.

I've been continuing to work the Florida ratification bills, too, Also, have been helping to mentor the 6 other states legislatures as they file their bills. You might want to go to our national site (we now have multiple foci--Florida and the nation--for passage of the Equal Rights Amendment), www.2PassERA.org, for information that legislators rely upon in their states and in Florida as they file their bills to ratify.

YOU CAN HELP NOW! PLEASE CALL:
Sen. Flores (SCR 286): 850 487-5130
and
Rep. Plakon (HCR 8003): 850 488-2231
Say, "I urge you to hold ERA hearings asap. ERA can be a path to economic recovery, so why not capitalize on it!"

CONGRESS, MEET THE NEW ERA.

We brought equal rights to Afghanistan and Iraq. All new entities since WWII have an ERA! The EU has one too! The United STates does not have an ERA, and women are not paid equal to men. Let's all stand together for workers rights and ERA!

5. The Baldwin Equal Rights Amendment resolution
The Baldwin Equal Rights Amendment resolution now has a Bill number, HJRes 47. Those of us who facilitated this accomplishment with Sponsor Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin are ecstatic.
Why?
Because this bill offers a more efficient, more timely route to passage of the ERA than the other offering before the U.S. House and Senate, it is the better choice for the 100% of the public, male and female alike. The other is the Rep. Maloney-Sen. Menendez bill. It would re-start the process all over again, from achieving hearings on the bill and passing it out to the states for 3/4 to approve. That took 50 years the first time! And ratification of the required 38 states has STILL not happened, after almost 40 years after that. And that took place in a much less mean political climate than today's. Estimated time could be more than 100 years.

All we have to do is convince the nation's Federal leaders that 1) it is not humane to keep the female 52% of the public out of their contract with their nation, 2) that it's not smart either, as it hamstrings the majority of the public, ramps up Medicaid, Public Assistance and court costs. It also prevents America's capitalizing on the increased GDP that comes along with passing the ERA. Ask other nations where gender-equality is the standard.

The ERA uniquely requires NO funding. The American worker benefits. Women could get paid equal salaries for equal work. What working family wouldn't love that! ERA is win-win for all Floridians and Americans.
As a proud civic duty, anyone can call the numbers in the previous message.
All can then call their Congressperson across the nation and urge their co-sponsorship of the Equal Rights Amendment bill, HJRes 47.
Let me know at SandyO@PassERA.org, and I will follow up. As founder-president of Equal Rights Alliance, I am proud to do that for you for free.
