I've seen over and over tremendous outrage break out here on DU over the years. Each time it felt like a tipping point had arrived and NOW something will change!
but ...
Every time it simply petered out, the Republicans got most of what they wanted and life continued as before, just a little more unpleasantly.
The problem is that we members of DU are only a tiny, infinitesimal drop in the U.S. bucket. Most of America have other things to think about and don't really pay much attention to Republican and Democratic ping pong shenanigans.
Once again it feels like we have reached a tipping point but when I think back over the past I begin to have strong doubts.
Until these feelings break out of the DU world and infuse the wide, outside world with the same fervor, nothing will really change.
Will this actually get over the hump and become an agent of change or will it run out of steam and slide back into the dark pits of Oblivia?
I hope ... but am not yet convinced.

2. I have been following politics for over 40 years now |

Almost 50 really, and have always been frustrated with how much crap the American people will put up with. But this time I think it is different, no I mean really really different. We have just turned a point here in America although it is hard to say what form that takes or how it plays out, but we are most certainly on the cusp of change.

7. The Obama admin is actively busting teachers' unions. How is he "our general" |

in the fight against union-busting?
He & Duncan cheered the firing of an entire school & his education plan = firing teachers en masse.
Obama has been MIA.
It's young people who've been doing the heavy lifting from the beginning, since the cuts to college budgets months back, and in Wisconsin.
Not sure why Obama should get at the head of this parade at this point.

And I wonder if critical mass has FINALLY been reached. I've thought I was looking it straight in the face several times since 2001. Never quite got there. Not sure we were even close. Apathy, willfull ignorance, intimidation, fear of change, fear of sticking one's neck out that far, etc. etc. etc. It just frightens the hell out of me to see how the bad guys have managed to outflank us - strategy, media, infiltrating the courts, the school boards, all the big money's with them, Dear God...

8. Just look at NPR today. One accurate criticism of the Tea Party and NPR's president must resign. |
|
How did this happen? How did these idiots gain so much insane power in such a short time?
I don't have a lot of faith in things really turning around. The country seems to revel in blithering idiocy as the highest standard to aspire to.
It's got to be the greedy owners of our country's wealth that are pulling all the strings. There's really no other explanation how things could have gotten so mad.

on one Facebook page with all these knuckle-draggers ganging up on me about how the Wisconsin 14 are derelicts and NOT doing their jobs because they left the state and a whole lot of "the majority spoke and your side didn't" and - SHEESH!!!!! So much animosity out there. So much hostility toward simple protections for working people (which I'm assuming most of my critics are, too). Looks like the brainwashing is complete in some places in what I used to recognize as America. I don't know how we'll ever get OUR country back.
But I do know one thing: if I hear ANYONE EVER AGAIN dismiss a political argument with the "meh, they're all the same. Dems and republi-CONS - they're all the same, doesn't make any difference who you vote for, they're all the same and they're all owned," I will just reply with "Wisconsin."
:banghead:
Just looked a little deeper into one of my Facebook critics - yep, she's a card-carrying member of the "Anarchy Crowd" alright: Her quoted philosophy on her "info" page: I will not run anyone’s life nor let anyone run mine. I will not rule nor be ruled. I will not be a master nor a slave. I will not sacrifice myself to anyone nor sacrifice anyone to myself - Ayn Rand
:eyes:
And you make sure you have enough $$$ to take your own garbage to the dump and fix your own roads, and inspect your own food and the next airplane you have to fly in, okay, girlfriend?

What if there was no "base"? What would it be like right now?
