What is the expected outcome of Rep. King's hearings on Islam?

What do they hope to gain? Distraction? Fear Mongering? Laws to ban the practice of Islam? Blacklists of Muslims? New detainees for new detention centers (It is a big buzniz)?

Why are we doing this? And how much money is this costing us that could be used somewhere else? How do the uberrich 400 gain from this?

so he and the Repugs will say that Obama failed to protect us. They want something like that to run on in 2012. I believe that they think having hearings like this will provoke someone in the Muslim community to take such an action.

Sorry to have to have this type of suspicion about the Repugs - it's a sad commentary when one has thoughts like these when dealing with politicians like King. They will stop at nothing to unseat Obama and take back power.

He wouldn't even let his fellow committee members have opening statements to express their disgust with his tactic.

It's also one of those polarizing "social issues" that the GOP have a LONG history of rolling out when too much national attention is tuned to stuff that actually matters (in this case, declining quality of life and workers' rights for the bottom 99.9%)...

Nothing will really come out of it, but it will command the spotlight as long as it goes on...And a few weeks later, they just pull out one of their "old reliables" which gets discussed endlessly with no resolution (gays, abortion, immigration, flag burning, climate change, etc.)
