Look what just happened in Michigan

Mich. Senate passes bill to give broad powers to emergency managers
State appointees could terminate contracts for teachers, government workers

LANSING, Mich. — Legislation that would give broad new powers to emergency managers appointed to guide financially struggling cities and schools in Michigan moved one step closer to becoming law Wednesday, winning approval from the Republican-led state Senate.

The Senate passed the main bill in the package by a 26-12 party-line vote. The Republican-led House has passed similar legislation and the bills would head to Gov. Rick Snyder once differences are resolved between the two versions.

Snyder, a Republican, called for emergency manager legislation in January and is likely to sign the bills once they reach his desk. He noted on Wednesday, however, that details of the legislation still are changing as it works its way through the Legislature.

Opponents of the legislation are concerned because emergency financial managers who are appointed by the state would have the power to terminate union contracts held by school teachers and local government workers. Democrats say the measures are an assault on collective bargaining.

8. This one is the worst yet
the administration can sieze whole cities and towns. The emergancy manager goes in and fires everybody in the city government and takes control of it's finances. So elected officials are thrown out for hired thugs controlled by the governor. How many Democratic city officials are going to be kicked out and taken over with this you think?

9. As a Michigan resident,
I know that the majority of the population in northern Michigan and the upper peninsula are republican. However, they will not take it well if anyone came to their town and fired their elected officials. This goes against the anti-government feelings that these people have. Way too intrusive. This could be very dangerous.

11. And Bobb gets his way again. He gets more power.
From last year, and things are worse this year.

Bobb is returning TFA to Detroit, even while experienced teachers laid off.

"Teach for America, the national corps of college graduates who teach in underserved schools for two years, will come back to Detroit this summer.

One hundred graduates -- 80 in Detroit charter schools and 20 in Detroit Public Schools -- will descend on the city during one of the most highly charged climates Teach for America has ever seen, officials acknowledge.

As the school board battles Emergency Financial Manager Robert Bobb over academic controls, the president of the teachers union is threatening an injunction to stop aspiring teachers from entering classrooms if it's at the expense of laying off current teachers in those subject areas.

...""We look forward to a successful partnership and will do all we can to make sure it is a lasting one," Bobb's chief academic and accountability auditor, Barbara Byrd-Bennett, said in a statement."
