2. Take Class Action April 13....
April 13 is a day of action across CSU campuses in California. Rallies on individual campuses will be designed to highlight California Faculty Association (CFA) and other bargaining unit unions' efforts to secure fair contracts and the need to insure fair and affordable access to higher education for California students.

Link for additional information about CFA and April 13: http://www.calfac.org/

Solidarity!

19. I've heard it in quite a few places.
Thom Hartman's show, and I think someone mentioned it on Bill Press' show this morning. I read it on DU last night as well.

11. Good one - if this goes on for a while.
imho - We can NOT afford to lose this. Wisconsin is ground zero. If they win - it will be Raygun and the ATC all over again.

16. I suspect that they are expecting that
and will be surprised when it quite does not play that way.

The ATAC strike got zero support... this is organic in ways I have not seen outside history books. The war has been joined. People FINALLY get it.

Read the Fourth Turning for a cheap Toynbee like explanation of what is going on.

7. FB removed strike info from a thread
Some people would like a heads up to find rallys, protests and information so they can attend if possible.

I know DU wouldn't censor that type of info. Gathering it and posting it - join in. Spread the word.

13. Actually that will be the fourth I've been to in the last.........
month and each one has been bigger than the last. Except the one today and that was only because it was organized in less than 12 hours and it's a VERY cold and rainy day. We had 50 people or so today, including a couple of state reps in spite of the weather and the lack of notice.

17. Thanks. I consider this the defining fight of my old age.........
:) The civil rights struggle was just SLIGHTLY before my coming of age and the anti Vietnam War was my first taste of activism. This is every bit as important as that.

3. Discharge of State Employees
Provide that, during a state of emergency declared by the Governor under the state of emergency management law, an appointing authority may discharge any employee who does any of the following: a) fails to report to work as scheduled for any three days during the state of emergency and the employee's absences from work are not approved leaves of absence; or b) participates in a strike, work stoppage, sit-down, stay-in, slowdown, or other concerted activities to interrupt the operations or services of state government, including specifically participation in purported mass resignations or sick calls. Provide that engaging in any of these activities constitutes just cause for discharge.

-snip-

Under current law, the Governor may issue an executive order declaring a state of emergency for the state or any portion of the state if he or she determines that an emergency resulting from a disaster or imminent threat of disaster exists. Generally, a disaster is a severe or prolonged, natural or human-caused, occurrence that threatens or negatively impacts life, health, property, infrastructure, the environment, the security of this state or a portion of this state, or its critical systems.
