POLICE: Man who jumped from tower was depressed, unemployed
By DAILY SOUND STAFF -- MARCH 10, 2011
Authorities on Wednesday identified the man who jumped 85 feet to his death from the Santa Barbara County Courthouse clock tower as Danny Lee McLaughlin.
The 44-year-old was apparently depressed because he was unemployed and dealing with financial issues, and personal problems, according to the Santa Barbara Police Depatment.
Lt. Paul McCaffrey said family members had no idea that McLaughlin was contemplated taking his own life.
McLaughlin jumped from the clock tower in front of a crowd of horrified onlookers.
McLaughlin landed on the grass facing Anacapa Street. Sheriff’s deputies attempted to revive him, but he was pronounced dead on the scene.
