Obama's shock doctrine-style tactics: "there's a lot of denial, still, about who Obama is"

"There's a lot of denial about who Obama is"

Naomi Klein was interviewed today on Democracy Now for the full hour; well worth the time to read, watch or listen to, just like everything else she has to say. This part in particular caught my attention:

(I)t’s helpful to have a bad guy. And Scott Walker is a good bad guy. And he has galvanized progressives. And people have an enemy to organize around and to point out these disparities. It hasn’t happened at the federal level, despite the fact that Obama is also involved in attacking labor rights with his pushing of charter schools and draconian budget cuts. He’s not a good bad guy for progressives. So we're still in a situation where Obama is getting away with, in my opinion, shock doctrine-style tactics, because people don't—still don't want to believe that Obama is doing it, too. So, when you have an easy bad guy, a Republican governor who's obviously trying to be the reincarnation of Ronald Reagan, you can mobilize the left. But it won't just work if we are only going after the Republicans and if this is fought along just partisan lines, as opposed to being fought based on principle. No matter who is doing it, we need to be mobilizing, if it's Obama, if it's Scott Walker.

And she goes on to say that "there's a lot of denial, still, about who Obama is and who he surrounds himself with." Sounds hauntingly familiar, doesn't it?

I will now make two equally likely predictions: 1) liberal denial over Obama will never end, regardless of what he does, and 2) the sun will rise tomorrow.

.... is not good for the country, is not what he claimed to be and is not a progressive in any meaningful sense of the word. People who cannot face that simple FACT, a fact he confirms over and over, are indeed in denial and are the Democratic equivalent of Bushbots, people who rallied behind Bush no matter how egregiously stupid his actions.

Here's your sign.

9. obama & duncan cheered the firing of an entire school. his education policy
is a continuation of bush's.

bush's ed policy was no child left behind, designed to eventually turn every school into a failing school, the better to shut them down & turn them into charters which could eventually be privatized.

obama is continuing the same policy but even more so, and destruction of teachers; unions & deprofessionalization of teaching is the end game.

obama is union-busting; it;s the policy of both parties.

10. I would say the main difference is that Republicans use
hatred and scapegoating. That hides the fact that both approaches head eventually in the same direction economically.
