Americans oppose offshoring. Can't we tap into that?
I read this a few months ago:

Opposition to offshoring American jobs is something that appeals to Democrats and Tea Partiers alike.

Are there any active anti-offshoring groups out there for people to join? Thanks!

1. Yeah. The group is called "start a business, hire people, pay good salaries,
provide good benefits". That is the alternative to off-shoring and there are plenty of business people doing it this very minute. F'ing case closed.

2. Don't be so condesending. I interact everyday with some pretty hard right folks and we all agree....
this outsourcing nonsense has to stop.

This is about the only thing we agree on and it could be a
way to find common ground with the Tea Baggers.

5. We use numbers.
Most Democrats - over 80%, and even Republicans, about **90%** oppose offshoring. 10% support among Republicans means extinction level numbers for the pro-offshoring camp. I mean, really, how many causes do you know have 90% support?

I even read in another Democrat blog that Democrats who publicly opposed offshoring did better on average during the election. We have the strength to make this happen.

We need to use our numbers and we need to stop being silent. We need to let others know that they're not alone and we need to organize an anti-offshoring movement. We gotta start pushing for fair trade.

9. It's not just 80% of Democrats and 90% of repubs opposing offshoring...
(though I'm not sure where those percentages come from. I've seen anywhere form 53% to 69% overall opposing trade agreements.)

Most Tea Partiers Think Free Trade Agreements That Tea Party Candidates Support Are Bad For The Country

http://thinkprogress.org/2010/09/30/tea-partiers-trade-bad

Earlier this week, NBC News and the Wall Street Journal released a new poll surveying Americans’ views on trade. The poll found that 69 percent of Americans thought that free trade agreements the United States has taken part in have cost the country jobs, and 53 percent of Americans think these agreements hurt the country as a whole.

Interestingly, the poll also found that opposition to free trade agreements is particularly strong among Americans who define themselves as supporters of the Tea Party movement. 61 percent of self-described tea party supporters said they thought free trade has harmed the United States, just four percent less than union members:

A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll shows that 69 percent of Americans believe free trade agreements with other countries have cost jobs in the United States, while just 18 percent believe they have created jobs. A 53 percent majority—up from 46 percent three years ago and 30 percent in 1999—believes that trade agreements have hurt the nation overall. <...>

While 65 percent of union members say free trade has hurt the U.S., so do 61 percent of Tea Party sympathizers. Democratic pollster Peter Hart and his Republican counterpart Bill McInturff, who conduct the NBC/WSJ poll, say the greatest shift against free trade has come among relatively affluent Americans, or those earning more than $75,000 a year.

8. The problem is that BOTH parties are in bed with the corporatists who LIKE offshoring
and if the candidates want /need money from these corporations, they have to look the other way, or actively aid the corporations in their offshoring..

10. When the Repubs filibustered the bill that the Dem House passed that would have stripped
corporations from getting tax credits for offshoring our jobs, and the Dems did NOTHING with this during election season and failed to draw any attention to this matter it becomes crystal clear that it's all theater.

On this issue alone, the Dems could have held Congress. If the Dems fought for us on this issue and made it enter the national consciousness and national discourse I really don't think they would have lost their majority.

There is NO reason (except for one) that they failed to do this. Those Dems that lost their seats this past election cycle will be given lucrative jobs for life to attempt to ensure future elected Dems follow in their footsteps.

We have to change the system.

11. It's not about what the people want.
It's about who is in control and that is our largest multi national corporations.
