So I went to the starbucks near where my sis lives
she lives inland, pretty red...

So I am working on my IPAD on a novel... and lady comes over. I'm wearing a red T-SHIRT...

"Is that about Wisconsin?" Low, almost conspiratorial.

"Yes."

:THANK YOU!"

She is a local teacher, and as she put it our unions are next... and she is right.

So talked a little about organizing and all that.

Remember this is a very red area of town.

I was surprised.

1. This may be waking some people up. Like Randi Rhodes said, I don't care if
you're a Democrat or Republican, if you work for a living, you're on my team.

15. Yeah, but nad, I really think it may SEEM like more to us because we're focused
on it and notice those who are == kind of like the new car thing - you get a new car and suddenly notice how MANy like them are on the street.

I agree some are awakening, but not as many as I'd think by hanging out here and watching/listening to the 'progressive' media. I'm shocked when, if I broach the subject, people just blow it off, pffft, we've got enough to worry about here in our state, I can't be bothered with what's happening in Wisconsin/Ohio/Libya/Egypt. Absolutely instantly makes my blood pressure skyrocket. I want to SHAKE them and scream at them! I'm sure that would be helpful. :7

2. Starbucks has been firing union organizers including here in Omaha

In the past DUers didn't seem to mind that. Things sometimes change very fast. :-)

3. Atta girl, my dear nadin!
I'm not a bit surprised. Even red communities usually have a few enlightened citizens...

8. I'm guessing "red" political areas are going to start looking a lot more "red" (the other kind) soon
Edited on Fri Mar-11-11 12:34 AM by Oak2004
The discontent in America crosses all political affiliations (and rarely crosses class lines... go figure? :) )

Given enough ineptness by our would-be distopian leaders, more and more protesters against corporatism are going to see traditionally "conservative" elements, like police and the military, side by side with them. Hitler knew enough to throw crumbs at "aryan" German workers to shore up his base, whereas these fools think the first thing they need to do when in office is screw over the police and vets and active military rank and file. And, of course, the teachers.

We're all in the same boat, and we all have a vested interest in grabbing the wheel from the maniacs who have taken aim at an iceberg and ordered "full speed ahead"

9. I hope it does not get there
it is not romantic. But if they push enough it will. We are at a crisis the likes we have not seen in living memory.

10. Went shopping in my "Wikileaks" tee the other day and the saleswoman was really nervous around me.
She was trying to bag up some items I bought for my mother really really fast. I had forgotten I was wearing that shirt and later realized that is why she was so nutso. Like I was going to bomb the place or something.

11. That's too funny, almost worth a skit on SNL. She obviously had
heard something about Wikileaks (God knows what), just enough to equate it with 'DANGER' :)

14. Just a red shirt? No Wisconsin-specific verbiage or symbology?
I'm surprised - you have a remarkably perspicacious clientele at your local java emporium...
