West Coast - San Francisco Bay Area just got its first Emergency Alert System Warning
Edited on Fri Mar-11-11 04:57 AM by FrenchieCat
Tsunami is supposed to arrive at 8:00 a.m.

Wonder what I should do?
I'm relatively close to the water, but live in the hills.

Any hint?

1. If you live in the hills, you will be fine.
However, there is the potential for damage to road systems and power lines. Making it difficult to evacuate after the fact.

If you live close to the ocean, I'd recommend moving inland to an area that will not be affected at all.

2. If you are high keep your eyes on civil defense
get water, make sure you got water.

Be ready to leave if need be, as advised by civil defense.

at least.

And yes, I'll look out for what's happening in the skies.

I better wake my hubby and let him know what is up.

Thanks!

4. If you have enough food and water for several days rations...
I'd stay put. If you don't, I'd recommend leaving to go a little further inland.

If you have an emergency wave radio, turn it on and listen to the instructions.

14. Thanks! Got 3 big jugs of water, not much canned goods though as I'd like....
But I called my daughter who lives pretty close to the water,
and she's coming over with her BF to spend the night now,
and they are stopping at Safeway on their way and picking up a
few things.....just in case!

5. LOL, that was my first tsunami warning, ever - and oddly, I found it strangely

exhilarating. (We live in the outer Sunset in San Fran, about half a mile from the open ocean.) In fact, we're thinking about driving up there and taking pictures/videos.

7. Well, you are right up in there!
We can see the Bay Bridge from our house (San Leandro Hills),
But I'm not quite sure how big a Tsunami would have to be to get there....
we ain't "that" close, but we ain't very far either!
I'm supposed to be driving to work in Half Moon Bay tomorrow....or maybe not!

9. Our son lives in Concord.. Do you think they will be affected?
You can see water from Concord..not sure what it exactly is though..some sort of inlet?

11. Concord is considered pretty much "inland" to Bay Area locals......
as far as weather is concerned (don't know about a tsunami though). It's about 30 minutes by car from San Francisco...The water you are talking about is probably an estuary, although if you go northwest, you do hit the Carquinez Bridge.....and there is certainly water under there!

13. happy to reassure you that your son is perfectly safe; he's on the inland side of
the San Francisco Bay.

Tsunami is the last possible danger he should worry about... if anything, it is the fault lines near to Concord that may be of possible concern.

6. We're all gonna die, FrenchieCat.
I've cracked a bottle of Hirsch Reserve.

I'm going down, large...

10. I posted a thread with the ETAs for the tsunami
Here's the link to NOAA: http://wcatwc.arh.noaa.gov/2011/03/11/lhvpd9/01/webetalhvpd9-01.txt

I'm in Mountain View, so I'm very very close to the Bay ... my car is parked in the underground parking, so I think I'll move it to surface before I go to bed. It may not be very bad here (if anything) and not that bad in the city - best wishes to you.
